Can you get it to autoplay divx? (cause I don't know how.. new firmware?)
How can you get it to play normal .AVI's made by cannon camera's?

I think Philips will never release a firmware with autoplay function. Also I don't like this feature. If you have 4-5 movies on a disc and you want to see the 4-th? After inserting the disc, the player will always play the first movie which is annoing.

How can you get it to play normal .AVI's made by cannon camera's?Most probably by re-encoding them to MPEG-4 (Part-2).
Just because your Cannon camera outputs files with an .AVI file extension, it does mean the video stream within the .AVI container will be "MPEG-4 (part-2)". It's more likely to be "Motion JPEG".... Which the players video decoding/processing chip-set does not support!

Last question.. anyway to hook it up directly via USB to a computer.. and some how emulate a flash drive through software on the computer..

Does anybody know whether this player supports idx/sub subtitles?
I read one article where someone had tested that Philips 5140 does support those subtitles and it has the same chipset than 5960.
