Analog TV capture MPEG2 to DivX - recommendations?

I have now a lot of movies recorded from Beyond TV 3.5, at 576x352 and bitrate 2800, apprx 1,5Gbit pr hrs. The source is analog antenna signal, recorded with either WinTV-PVR-USB2 or PowerColor Theatre 550.

I am only going to have the file on disk, but I would like to have the file size, around 900Mb or less, for a standard movie.

Iwould like to remove black bars from the pictures.

Iam using the DivX Pro 6.0. codex.

I have erlier used Gknot for DVD movies and DVB-S satelite broadcast. But I cant find a guide on plain analog. (some time ago doe...)

Any one who can give me a hint here

I have now tried the DivX Converter, and it produced a file around 1GB pr movie, with a quality that is ok. At least on the DivX Player but in the BeyondTV it had poor quality, dont know way:rolleyes: Also the file maybe be a tod big, because the source file is only around 3-4GB MPEG2??

The only problem is that if the text is on the black bars it will be crop'et away. So in my James Bond movie "Never say never" DivX, I got only half of the text:

So Iam trieing to use Gknot for this movie. When I do a Compressibility Test I've got very low results, and what is the red 508,1% field mean?

I am very unsertain of which output resolution to use, and bitrate:confused:

I only want to have a disent looking movie that can lay in the limits of 500mb to 1500mb, can Gknot adjust this in auto, or do I have to do several passes and deside for my self, when the compression and quality is met??

Ie do a separately pass for each setting. Like adjusting the "Total file Size" at 500, and then 1000 and so 1500MB? Then play them, and se witch is better, and then choose this for the rest of my recordings?

I use DVDx to convert Mpeg to DivX, you can download it here:

you best search the net for a tutorial,

in the 'output settings' you can select 'Avi (DivX,...)' and if you set under 'Zoom' custom, you can leftclick on videoscreen (when 'output settings' are closed) and change coordinates to crop the black bars, like this you can choose how much you want to crop so you keep your subtitles (leftclick on screen and choose 'Render destination' so you can see better what you are encoding),

I use the bitrate calculator of the DivX codec, for movies up to 1h30min I make them fit to around 700mb, for 2h movies above 1GB,

I never go under 950 kbps
