View Full Version : Are HDMI inputs zoned on home theater amplifiers ?

Hi everyone,

I planned to buy an nice home theater amplifier. Because the new generation of amplifier is getting HDMI inputs, I were thinking that those inputs could be zoned, no ?

Because of the disponibility (not before 3 months) and because of the enormous delta in price, I were thinking buying it on Amazon (US - zone 1 - 800 to 900 USD) instead of buying it in France (Europe - zone 2 - 1900 to 2000 USD).

Just to let you know which model, I plan to buy the :
Harman Kardon AVR 645 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000E7GDTG/ref=dp_olp_2/002-6494423-7796058)
or the Yamaha RX-V2600 (http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-RX-V2600-receiver-7-1-channel/dp/B000CAJ8II/sr=1-1/qid=1167849755/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-6494423-7796058?ie=UTF8&s=electronics)

Can someone tell me if those inputs could be zoned ? Or give me a link ?

Thanks you in advance and Happy New Year !!!!

The HDMI connection utilises something called HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection System).... which is not zoned.

However, HDCP is very flexible. Technically, it's protection levels can be upgraded via say, a TV broadcast signal, movie disc or even audio disc.... and almost certainly via a network internet connection

Thank you for your answer ;)

Unfortunately, when it comes to f*** the a** of their honest customers, hardware makers took a lot of time...

Fortunately those amplifiers don't have any way to be upgraded (except an improbable radio broadcast signal :()

Thank you.

Fortunately those amplifiers don't have any way to be upgraded (except an improbable radio broadcast signal :()Actually they can.... and this can be done in much the same way "little black boxes" that circumvent HDCP can be knocked out too!

The upgraded HDCP software could (in theory) be passed too the amplifier (or black box) from other HDMI connected devices....

That said, I suspect the HDMI outputs fitted to most "low end" DSS/HT amplifiers will only be glorified HDMI switch boxes, containing no HDCP chip-sets at all.....

Cheers
