VobBlanker 2.1.3 starts here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=999819#post999819)

I have some time these days, so I've coded the multiple split feature
Still not really in beta stage (needs to be tested deeply and completed with more features), but here it is a new thread for the new development.

Added: Multiple splits per cell. Up to 32 split points can be defined per cell in the same VobBlanker session.
Added: GOP type and Cell elapsed time are shown in Preview
Improvement?: GOP type detection now accepts first video pack in a non standard position
Change: Open GOP warning completely removed
Change: Confusing message when ILV-ed cells are detected.
BugFix: When removing unreferenced cells and renumbering, VOB pointers fixing phase was working with the list including the cells to be deleted, so some cells were adjusted twice.
BugFix: Adding chapters when splitting cells could fail in some rare conditions
BugFix: VobBlanker was not launching the fixing pointer phase when a cell number mismatch was detected replacing cells/pgcs

Change: Confusing message when pointers mismatch between C_ADT and PGC_Playback tables.@jsoto

What's changed here? This was a very informative message!

Bah, it's a cosmetic change, and, sorry, the changelog was not describing the message corrected. I've reedited my post and changed the changelog ...

The message modified is
Before:
"There are at least one ILV Cell.
The VTSs containing these cells have been marked as SKIP.
You can process them, but playback problems can appear
in all PGCs originally containing ILV cells except the first one"

Now:
"There are at least one ILV Cell.
The VTSs containing these cells have been marked as SKIP.
You can process them, but playback problems (small pauses).
can appear in all PGCs originally containing ILV cells."

BTW, seems there is a typo... should be "There is at least.."

jsoto

EDIT: The message "before" was correct in VobBlanker 1.XX, when VobBlanker was processing the VOB files by PGCs, but not valid in VobBlanker 2.XX

In the “CELL PREVIEW/ CUT MODE” you would put the elapsed Mega Bytes too, as the slider is running.

In this beta the elapsed time is showed only when the video is stopped.

Thank you for Vobblanker 2.1.2.0 and for the continuous improvement.

In the “CELL PREVIEW/ CUT MODE” you would put the elapsed Mega Bytes too, as the slider is running.
I thought on it, but the elapsed amount of bytes (of the Cell) is just 2048*sector, so ...

In this beta the elapsed time is showed only when the video is stopped. Yes, this preview is oriented to editing, not to play a title. Modify these values (time and may be the slider) needs modifications in DVDPreview class, written by jeanl, and shared by (at least) three aplications. I think it has no too much sense.
Note the time shown is the "elaopsed time" of the cell, not the PGC one. It is oriented to do the splits in a time-controlled point

BTW, clicking on info, you can see the audio timestamp running when the video plays...

Is it possible to make to that the preview and info windows stay inside of the viewable area of the screen? As it is now the infowindow always open half way off screen here. Not a big deal, but it would be nice.

jsoto
7th January 2007, 12:31
Which resolution are you using? 800x600 maybe?

Preview window always pops-up at the left of main VobBlanker window, so, if your main window fits, preview should fit too.
Info window: I never took too much attention to this dialog..
I have to delete some fields there (done just now), but I really like its "floating" behaviour.

Sorry I was a bit unclear, the main preview window is ok, it's the info window that allways open half way off screen, at the bottom. The counter is just outside of view. I'm running 1152x864 so that shouldn't be a problem. :)

Oh, and I got the task bar at the top.

IIRC, if you move it somewhere else, it should remember the location, and opens at the same place the next time.

I have some kind of a n00b question; sorry in advance.
I have a DVD9 is that i authored myself but unfortunately i cannot burn in on DVD-R DL because the layer break isn't positionned exactly where it should, as explained by the great folks over at the imgburn forum.
I know i need a DVD+R DL for the burn to be alright but i was wondering if this new version allowed to make a proper cut in order to burn on DVD-R DL?
Thanks for the info.

@ TheShadowRunner,

i've never tried to burn dl, so, right now i'm just talking out of my ass, don't take it for granted, but, i guess you should split cells using VobBlanker, until they fit on one layer, and use PgcEdit to determine a layer break at the next cell.
anyone wiser than me, please correct me if i'm wrong

@Drinken
I still do not understand exactly your problem. Could you post an image (www.imageshack.us) with how the dialogs pop up in your PC?

These are how they pop up in my PC (configured at 1024x768)

VobBlanker 2130beta3 (not public, after removing some not valid fields in info dlg, and after changing the fonts to the same size than in other dialogs)
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/1764/vb213cb1.th.jpg (http://img167.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vb213cb1.jpg)

IIRC, if you move it somewhere else, it should remember the location, and opens at the same place the next time.Note this happens only with VobBlanker's main dialog.

EDIT: Preview and Info windows should open in a fixed position (as shown in figures) relative to VobBlanker's main dialog.

@ jsoto,

could you please get rid of the
'Filename has to be "*_01.VOB" if you want to split the output'
warning in case the extracted file < 1 GB and named otherwise?
or alternatively auto-deselect 'split output in multiple files' with small files?

thanks a lot

If you don't have any point that meets layer break requirements, you can uses PGCEdit (burning dl process) which tells you which cell you have to split. Then split that cell. Repeat this process till...

Hi guys, thanks a lot for your answers; all very appreciated.
The problem is that the layer break on DVD-R DL appears to be fixed while it can be "moved" on DVD+R DL if i understood correctly.
(Many helping guys and LIGHTNING himself confirmed it on this thread http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=2928 )
Which means that either i reauthor all the DVD9 (which is impossible for me to do since i erased the source material ^^;), or I need to gab DVD+R DL.
Since i still have a few DVD-R DL, I wanted to make sure i can't do it with nowadays tools before i go with +R DL ;)

My main problem is that when a DVD-R DL is inserted in the drive, then PCGEdit reports that it cannot find a suitable cell that needs to be splitted so i'm lost as to which cell to split in VobBlanker..

On DVD-R (DL) both the last sector LBA on L0 and the first sector LBA on L1 are fixed. What PgcEdit does is a workaround by shifting the video content until the Layer Break matches the first sector on L1. But in every case the burner has to write the fully size of the two layers = 8.5 GB. For DVD+R (DL) last sector on L0 may be anyone.

But this is transparent to you. Doesn't PGCEdit tell you what cell you have to split ?

Drinken
9th January 2007, 04:34
I guess the problem I'm having is because I got the main window all the way down at the bottom of the screen. I didn't know that the preview window opened in a fixed position relative to the main window... can you change it so the info window is in line with the preview window?
Hmm wait, it looks like the non public beta already does that, thanks! :)

Susana, no; i get the following error when trying to create an ISO from my DVD9 folder:
---------------------------
PgcEdit: Burn DL DVD
---------------------------
Can't find a suitable cell for the layer break!

Try to change the order of the titlesets with DVD -> Remap Titlesets, or remove some
unnecessary material.

Note for expert users:
Given the minimal ISO file size (4106770 sectors) and the capacity of your DL DVD+R,
the LB must be between absolute sectors 2020928 and 2085856 in the ISO.
The absolute starting sector of the VOB files of the Title domain of VTS 2 is 1382524.
The LB cell must begin between relative sectors 638404 and 703332 in that domain.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Any ideas?
Thanks,

The message means that you have to split the main movie in VTS 2 between sectors 638404 and 703332. Normally PgcEdit gives you another info: the title and cell numbers that must be cut. Are you sure you are using the latest version?

Anyway, you can use VobBlanker to split your main movie at the right position. Here is how:

Load the DVD and select the line beginning with VTS_02_*.VOB. Then, double-click on the line in the lower pane. (If there are several lines in the lower pane, that's a little bit more complex. Post here again if it's the case.)

Now, you should see the cells window.
If there is only one cell in that window, it's easy: click on it.
If there are several cells, you have to locate the cell you need to cut. One sector is 2KB long, and VobBlanker gives you the length of the cells (in MB.) It should be easy, with a calculator, to find the right cell. Select it. (Or see the note below.)

Now, click on the "Split" button. Use the slider (in the upper left part of the window) and move it somewhere between LBAs 638404 and 703332 (if there is only one cell) or between those LBAs minus the length (in sectors) of the preceding cells.

Try to find a good point where you will not notice the little pause, but still in the valid range. Press Mark, untick Add Program and Chapter (unless you want to create a new chapter at that point) then OK your way to the main window, and process the domain. That's all.

Note: If you think it's too difficult to compute the starting sectors of the cells yourself, you can also note the starting VOBU of the cells with the PGC Editor of PgcEdit:
Double-click on the main title of VTS2 (a line beginning with VTST 2). The cell to split must have an Entry VOBU Sector less than 638404 and a Last VOBU Start greater than 703332. Remember the Entry VOBU Sector value. In VobBlanker, select the same cell, and split it between 638404-entry VOBU and 703332-entry VOBU.

r0lZ
10th January 2007, 03:30
BTW, there is also something else you can try. Since your main movie is in VTS 2, that means that you have also a VTS 1 (and perhaps also VTS 3 etc...)
You can try to modify the order of the VTSs. With some luck, that might be sufficiewnt to have a cell starting at the right position. However, if VTS 1 (and 3, 4...) are very short (for example if you have blanked them) it's probably useless.
To reorganize the VTSs, use PgcEdit -> DVD -> Remap Titlesets.

Could be interesting to show the absolute starting sector in Cell list?

in each vts vob files always get between ifo's and bup's, no matter if they are title or menu vobs, is that correct?

another thing, i create the image file with shrink, and it says the 70 kB smart gap for the title menus (shown as unreferenced material) is only 10 kB. VIDEO_TS.VOB is 70 kB, i checked it, so why shrink's wrong?

VIDEO_TS.VOB is 70 kB, i checked it, so why shrink's wrong?Probably because you have also some material that is referenced. VB adds only what is necessary for the smart gap.
Or, maybe Shring keeps only the real cell, and not the stuffing packs, which are disgarded anyway. (IIRC, VB creates a 10KB cell and fills the remaining sectors with stuffing packs.)
Anyway, do not use shrink after VB, or the smart gaps will be lost.

r0lZ
11th January 2007, 14:00
Do NOT use Nero to burn double-layer DVDs, espacially on DVD-Rs!

ImgBurn is far superior, free, and has a very good GUI to select the layer break position. It is also very good to burn single layer DVDs. I use it always, and haven't burned a coster yet!

Anyway, dual-layer DVD-Rs should be avoided, as the -R technology is very... let's say, "special". Use only good quality DL DVD+Rs.

r0lZ, thank you VERY much for your detailed tutorial on post #22 of this thread.
I am indeed using the latest PgcEdit version, taken off your page.
Since there was only 1 Cell line in the Cell Window, it was extremely easy.
I splitted somewhere around LBA 650000 and am burning right now with IMGBurn, which now has auto-detected the layer break properly.
I will amend this post in about 20 minutes hopefully with a success report!
Thanks again very much for your help!
About reorganizing the VTS in PgcEdit, i dropped the idea because all my VTS (i had 3 of them) were sensibly the same sizes.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

Note that you might try to reorganize the VTS anyway, as even if they are the same size, there might be more or less cells inside ecah VTS, and they are probably not the same size. But, of course, if all VTS are made of only one big cell, the trick cannot work.

TheShadowRunner
12th January 2007, 01:16
Ok, i'll keep that in mind (the re-organize VTS trick) for next time ;)

Remember you can re-create the gap sectors w/o running a VobBlanker session. Just open the DVD (before burning or creating the ISO image) it and, using main menu, do "Adjust sectors-> In input folder"

jsoto

That’s exactly what I would ask you, because sometimes I have to compress the DVD, even blanking some or all the extras due to the movie’s length or some extras I want to keep, and I need to use DVDShrink after VobBlanker.

As I want to start using VobBlanker’s Smart GAPs and read from our fellows that DVDShrink removes it, so in these cases, I can use VobBlanker’s "Adjust sectors-> In input folder" after DVDShrink compressing and before burn with Nero, to create the smart gaps, don’t having to waste more time processing with VobBlanker again.

Did I understand it right? Does DVDShrink always removes the Smart GAPS?
Thanks.

blutach
13th January 2007, 07:59
Not sure if it would. The files are there, even if unreferenced. DVD Shrink's GetVTSSectors routine is entirely standard and would not remove the Gaps. In fact, as I see it, there are no gaps in VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm)'s methodology - there are real files. SO, I think DVD Shrink would be fine (unless you did it in re-author mode).

Regards

r0lZ
13th January 2007, 12:53
I'm not so sure. VobBlanker's smart gaps contain stuffing packs. Since Shrink must, well, shrink the DVD, it is probable that it will remove the stuffing packs. Therefore, the VOB file will still be present, but not have the same length.
It is easy to test that, but in the meantime, IMO, it is safer to add the smart gaps just before burning.

Robotik
13th January 2007, 20:58
Shrink surely does remove stuffing packs, and doesn't even give you a choice
here's the latest dvd i've done.
this is the way it was before i ran VobBlanker, note that video_ts.vob doesn't exist:
http://img457.imageshack.us/img457/1438/1beforegapssu3.gif (http://imageshack.us)

this is the way it was after smart gaps were inserted:
http://img478.imageshack.us/img478/5207/2aftergapsiw2.gif (http://imageshack.us)

in Shrink you can see, that the 'title menus' in the unreferenced material section is blue, so it is changed in spite of the whole dvd's compression settings are set to 'no compression' and the only audio stream it has is set to be kept, Shrink is in 'full disc backup' mode, and the dvd is a way smaller than a DVD-5, anyway. also you can see 'title menus' size is shown to be 10 kB, even though the vob file is 70 kB:
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/3994/3inshrinkjw7.gif (http://imageshack.us)

after Shrink created the iso file and used ImgBurn to burn it on dvd, the end product looks like this:
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/8020/4aftershrinkwm9.gif (http://imageshack.us)

there is only a 10 kB vob file left, that's the blank cell without padding packs.

Robotik

@jsoto

is it possible / wouldn't it be better to use only real files for GAPs, not file+padding? this way programs like Shrink (dunno if other progams do it like that) wouldn't mess up the great job VobBlanker does.

jsoto
16th January 2007, 18:35
I'm using padding packs becasue they allow me to adjust exactly the number of sectors. If not, I would need a lot of blank cells, of all the possible different sizes. Other posibility is to use audio packs coded with silences, but in the case of growing an existing menu, the same audio parameters (code, bitrate, # of channels, etc) should be used...too complex.

In any case, smart GAPs use unreferenced material. So, even if it wouldn't use padding packs, a program will be able to remove the whole unreferenced cell.

So, use VobBlanker "adjust sectors" just before burn if you want to have the smart GAPs.
