Widescreen Movie/Dvd, Fullscreen Menu

Hi,

I'm not sure which section this topic would go into so i just put it in here. Feel free to move mods. :)

I just had a question. At the moment I have a fullscreen TV. I buy a widescreen movie (for instance, Dead Man's Chest) and watch it. The black bars at the top are normal. But, the DVD menu is in fullscreen format! On the Widescreen Edition of the movie! Does the menu automatically adapt to what format of TV you have? If I were to buy a widescreen TV would the menu automatically become widescreen? Or even on widescreen DVDs is default for the Main Menu fullscreen, and on a widescreen TV would the black bars appear on the sides?

it depends if your menu has been edited for wide screen or not.
ur widescreen TV i believe will pan the edge to fill your screen if it detect 4/3 screen signal.

I just got a widescreen and I really like it. The only thing I've found that is a real pain is when a perfectly good movie such as The Abyss or The Titanic are widescreen but letterboxed to fix a 4:3 display. I ran them both through DVDRebuilder to fix the aspect ratio to proper 16:9.

As far as the menu goes, it depends on the setup. I've got an Oppo that doesn't create the side bars on the display for 4:3 material -- but changing the settings in the player and the TV overcomes that. I think you will find that most situations with a widescreen are OK after you get the settings right (other than the letterboxing problem).

Sounds like you have the old "non widescreen enhanced" versions of the DVDs. Changing the VOB's aspect ratios to 16:9 won't fix that.

But, the DVD menu is in fullscreen format! actually it is Pan/ScanDoes the menu automatically adapt to what format of TV you have? Yes, but you must tell the DVD player what the TV is, go into the setup menu and tell it your TV is a widescreen and see what happens
If I were to buy a widescreen TV would the menu automatically become widescreen?see above
