View Full Version : Director comments on top of English audio stream

Hi,
Happy new year to every one.
I could rip and encode successfully CSI episodes from a DVD. On one episode, the director comments is played on top of the English audio stream. And it plays loudly as if it is the main audio stream. Switching to the Audio stream 2 make the director comments disappear.
What did I do wrong so that two audio streams could be played simultaneously? I assume that the VTS_04_0.IFO file has 3 tracks and I had probably checked all 3 of them. And how come a director comments is included in an episode where it doesn't belong?
I will re-encode this episode hoping to fix the error. But because it takes about 5 hours to complete an epidode (on a P3 1Ghz 768 MB RAM), I prefer not to make too many trials an errors. If you see any obvious error, I would greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.

You probably just need to install something to help filter during playback, such as Morgan Stream Switcher. You didn't mention how you encoded them, but if it was AutoGK as before it won't "combine" audio streams into one.

Hi!What did I do wrong so that two audio streams could be played simultaneously? You've likely done nothing wrong. I have many DVDs on which, when selected, the "Director's Commentary" plays with the movie audio softly audible "underneath" the dierector's words.
Try playing your original DVD, select "Director's Commentary" and see if what I described is applicable to your DVD...

setarip_old is probably right, although if the director's commentary is the primary audio in your final emcode, you may have selected them backwards in AutoGK. It's easy enough to fix by opening the file in VirtualDubMod and moving the commentary stream down (Remember to select "No" when prompted if you encoded the audio with VBR MP3).

Hi,
Thank you very much for your help. You are right, the Director's commentary was indeed embedded in the movie. When playing the DVD, the episode in question doesn't play right away. There is an interactive menu asking if the movie should be played with or without director's commentary. So then I guess I have selected the wrong audio track.
It's easy enough to fix by opening the file in VirtualDubMod and moving the commentary stream down. This is a very useful utility, thank you very much for your advice. There were 3 audio streams, 2 Eng and 1 FR. I selected Eng for Audio1 and Fre for Audio2, I have picked the Eng one with commentary. I have to re-encode this episode again.
You didn't mention how you encoded them, but if it was AutoGK as before it won't "combine" audio streams into one.
I use AutoGK 2.40. Have attempted to learn the full GK as you suggested in another post but gave up after ... 30 minutes when I saw that the project was discontinued since 2003 and there was little documentation. Have also tried FairWizard which is simpler but not as flexible than AutoGK.

You don't need to encode the episode again - you can extract (and convert if needed) the audio tracks and replace the ones in your existing file. DGIndex, which you already have, will separate the audio streams when you open the .VOB and save a .d2v with it. BeLight placed within your BeSweet folder (which you also already have) is a simple-to-use GUI to convert audio. From there you can just disable unwanted streams and add the ones you need with VirtualDubMod.

Wow! this is rather advanced what you have just suggested. I will try this one day just for the sake of learning. Thanks very much.
I have gone the easy route, re-encoding the episode again which took me 5 hours. Fortunately, the issue is gone, the other "Eng AC3 6ch" audio stream was the good one.
