Has anyone tried the new build 614 of x264 with it using the pthreads how much of a performance boost it can get? And is it able to make use of all 4 cores?

I am afraid that no one at this forum have quad core Intel.

But, who knows...

akupenguin does, and I seriously doubt he'd have written the whole new threading mode without optimizing it for quads. So does whoa!, but he didn't post benchmarks, just mentioned that it's faster.

The more cores you throw at it, the more avisynth's inherent single-threadedness is going to hurt, though.

You are right, but that's going to change in year 2007. Avisynth MT should be cleaned from bugs and optimised for multithreading, I hope.

The MT Plugin for 2.5.6a seems to work fine for me. X264 does crash sometimes on me, but the plugin does work. But it's not just that either. Some avisynth plugins also need to be optimized for multithreading. Most aren't.

Multiprocessing performance is going to be very important.
Dell is now selling the Quad core ExtremeQX6700 - http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsdt_710?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn

Still very pricey, though...
