XviD files freeze on standalone player

Hi,

I have a couple of XviD avis that play perfectly fine on the PC, but freeze about every 3 minutes in a standalone player.

The file will start off playing normally, then the time counter on the player will freeze, followed 10 seconds later by the video, and about another 10 seconds after that by the audio.

If I skip past the affected area it plays fine for about another 3 - 5 mins before it happens again.

Any ideas on what could be causing this ?

I don't think, that you will get a 100% correct answer, because there are too many SA around the world.

Most of them don't support the full range of MPEG4/ASP features:
Some have problems with b-frames, choppy playback.
Most of them have problems with GMC (Global Motion Compensation), frame freezes
Some have problems with custom matrices, resulting in smearing.

It depends on the chipset and firmware of the SA.

If you encode XviD-files for yourself, use AutoGK. It produces IMHO the most compatible files for SAs.
If you downloaded files from net, this is not the right forum to discuss about it.

What's the chipset of your player?
QPel, GMC, packed bitstream, max consecutive bframes.. check your videos with GSpot and post the result.

You could also check if the avi is properly muxed using AVIMux_GUI.

I had the same prob. before a month or 2...

After trying some things around I came to realize that this was because of the 'audio+video' muxin' !

I wanted to make an 'ac3 mux'...
I've muxed the video with many diferrend prog. and I had almost allways a bad result (not on the pc - but on the standalone).
.........
in the end I didn't really get were the prob. was with this 'audio-video' muxin' as it was made - same way as many times before...
but I did find a way to pass this through-
at 1st I simply forgot about getting an ac3 audio, but even the VBRmp3 was a prob., plus converting the audio before muxin' was a prob. 2 (???)

...any way - this was what I did and I got the video to be played in the standalone ok

1.I muxed the video (with ac3) via "vdubmod" ##not nadub or vdub or AVI_MUX.....###note that I never use vdubmod
2.I splited the file (it was 2cd's) #when I tried to convert the audio without splitin' I got an asych video file (????)
3.I've made the audio conversion via vdub ##CBRmp3___for each cd

If Skeleton Man generated his Xvid encodes he will know if he selected GMC as an encoding option.

Currently there's not a single stand-alone player available that supports Xvid's (3-warp-point) GMC implementaion.

I downloaded the files from the net.. but it's an older tv series (crank yankers - which I have been unable to find in stores) not the latest blockbuster release..

Anyway.. the chipest of my player I don't know.. it's a Yahoo Home Theater system.. bought it for xmas 2005.. (does anyone know who manufactures these ?)

Is there any other info I should be looking at ?

gatekeeper: Would demuxing an existing file and re-muxing using your method fix the problem ?
