1-pass quality based settings-greyed out still in effect?

When choosing 1-pass quality based most all other settings are greyed out (unchangable) except for the encoding quality setting (%). However I have noticed the maximum frame interval setting still takes effect. Makes me wonder if any other settings that are greyed out still take effect. Anyone know about this?

I can't remember what gets greyed out, but all that quality mode pays attention to is quality, motion search precision and keyframe interval. The rest is only related to CBR or 2-pass encoding.

There's no CBR encoding in DivX. Only VBR. Same for XviD but nobody seems to have really paid attention to this when I posted it on the www.videocoding.de forum.

I'll change it to ABR, which is the most correct definition that will fit (I'm not putting 1-pass pseudo bit reservoir rate controlled VBR in there).

The mpeg4ip guys might want to include a "true" cbr streaming profile, but the same thing could be generated with the rate control settings anyway.

You know in the divx4 help file is says it has a CBR mode. I never gave that any though until I read these replies.

LOL. Haven't you found even more words? And ones that are more difficult to understand? It's still much too short and too easy to understand ;). One hint: you can make it even longer by writing variable bitrate encoding mode instead of just VBR at the end.

I still think the vfw interface is too crowded/brief, but I'm not sure about the best way to clean it up. I guess it's not *that* critical, seeing as it's a video codec (should it be all that glossy?). XviD's ABR mode is broken at the moment too.

Motion search precision governs how much effort the codec puts into finding similarities between subsequent frames - the more precise it is, the better your movie will look for a given bitrate. Rate control settings include the nominal bitrate, rate control averaging period / reaction period / ratio, and to some extent quality and quantiser values.

I'm not doing anything with core.lib, just tinkering with interfaces (and getting a QT port for mac/pc functioning). The stuff that Isibaar, suxen_drol and gruel do... wow.

It's a lot of fun to watch.

yes, Wow !! I prefer to stick with formulas for the VBR 2 pass mode. BTW luma-masking still doesn't work with me. QT port is really a good idea because DXN doesn't want to do it...

You might have to post the crash dump info to the xvid board to get the lummask bug fixed - it's just pure C, so I'd be interested to see what it's tripping up on (msvc compiler bug? i can send an ICL-generated version for testing..). Seems some mpeg4ip people are getting interested as well, so the guys will finally have some more help with core.

Quicktime is, interesting. Should be some fun debugging ahead.
