Hi

I've got a problem. My King Of Queens DVD Seasons are in 4:3 Aspect Ratio. I like to convert them to 16:9 Aspect Ratio. Because I want to backup them as xvid files (each 200mb, english & german Audio). But the picture quality is miserable, because of enconding 4:3 video material to xvid! Is there a possiility to change the aspect ratio lossless???

Greez BlumiTheRipper

ps: sorry but my english isn't very well. i'm from germany ;)

Hello
Thanks for your reply. I'm trying now to explain you what I mean.

I have got the first and the second Season of "The King of Queens" on DVD (bought in germany! PAL!). The aspect ratio of this dvds is 4:3 (fullscreen!). now i would backup each episode to xvid. but before encoding the episode i would like to change the aspect ratio of the dvds without any loss! Is this possible and what software will i need???

Do you understand what i mean now?

Use AutoGK. it keeps the best AR for your Xvid encoding!
Note: if your source is 4:3, the result will be in 4:3 but you can force the 16:9 AR through AutoGK Hidden settings options.:o

yes, i know the forcing the 16:9 AR is possible but then the picture gets distorts. The heads are getting wider. i would like to change the AR without any distorts.

is this possible?

The only way is to cut down picture height. Yep, I'm talking about throwing away a significant part of the picture (about 1/4), and I mean actual picture not just resolution. Your chances to not completely ruin the films with this are hardly existent.

Thanx for your reply Brother John. But there's a thing, I don't understand. Why are tv shows like The OC are broadcastet in 16:9 on TV but the DVD is in 4:3!
Have the directors recorded the show twice?? They can change aspect ratio but why i can't???(the first season of "The OC" was broadcastet in 16:9 but the DVD I bought was in 4:3.)
So I have to ask this question:
Is there any program which can convert the resolution without removing parts of the picture? And how do the tv directors fix that?

(sorry but I will never learn english correctly :( ):stupid:

Why are tv shows like The OC are broadcastet in 16:9 on TV but the DVD is in 4:3!Probably because you either bought the wrong versions. Or the distributors want people to buy the 4:3 first before releasing the 16:9 versions!

By-the-way.... were all series of the OC made in 16:9?

Is there any program which can convert the resolution without removing parts of the picture? And how do the tv directors fix that? No... It's not possible!

Yes, on TV all Seasons of The OC were broadcastet in 16:9.
On DVD the first Season was 4:3, but the second & the third season were 16:9.
But neither the english OC Season 1 nor the german OC Season 1 are available in 16:9 on DVD.
And I read somewhere that there will be no Season 1 in 16:9 on DVD. :(

Think about what you'd have to do to "convert" them to 16:9. You'd have to watch every scene and decide for yourself what to crop top and/or bottom, or just crop evenly and hope people's heads won't be half off-screen. It's not possible to convert 4:3 to 16:9 without loss, because you'll be losing some of the frame. Your only other choices are to either stretch the image to fill the screen or live with the black bars to the left and right of the video.

Ok, that was the thing I wanted to know. I will have to live with the black bars...
Thanx for your help.
