Hi
First of all: Merry Christmas to everyone... ;)
I've got a problem! I hav got some Season from King of Queens on DVD. I like to encode them to Xvid or DivX 5 with Gordian Knot. But I don't know which deinterlacing filter to use? Which one will offer me the best quality? And should I use Xvid or DivX 5 Pro?
(I don't want to use DivX 6!)
Please help me solving my problem.

Greez BlumiTheRipper

PS: I like to backup each episode with the german and the english audio (both 128kbps CBR MP3) and each episode should have exactly 200MB!
What settings should i use on gordian knot and xvid to get the best solution that ist possible???

Well I prefer Xvid and Kernel Deinterlace, gives me pretty good allround results :)

everytime i enable deinterlacing ( no matter which deinterlacer) the result is horrible. It is not sharp and it looks horible.

what can i do??

You can post a link to a short unprocessed source clip so that we can figure out your exact problem. It could be a lot of things: blended fields, wrong field order, bad thresholds, ...

if you are resizing which filter is being selected for you by gordian knot? or which are you selecting, sometimes it will select one for you but its not always the right one, i always select sharp

The resizing filter i use is Lancoz (sharp)
what can i do. i can't believe that this is sooo dificult.
I just wanna have a nice sharp xvid file. with dvd episodes in 16:9 i don't have this problem because they are progressive but this ******* 4:3 episodes are all interlaced. i'm going crazy with this deinterlace problem. How can i cut out a little part of an vob file?is there any software? i will upload to rapidshare if i know how to cut out a part.

Greez BlumiTheRipper :rolleyes:

How can i cut out a little part of an vob file? is there any software? i will upload to rapidshare if i know how to cut out a part. Load the VOB in DGIndex. Set a range. Do Save Project and Demux Video. Upload the resulting M2V file. Choose a range of video that is representative of your problem and which has good motion.

King Of Queens is videotaped. You don't deinterlace such material - you need to leave it at 29.97 fps by selecting Video > Field Operation > Honor Pulldown Flags.

BlumiTheRipper

I will upload it shortly.
Thanx for your help.

Videotaped? But my DVDs are PAL 25fps (cause I'm from Germany!)
Should I really set to 29.970 fps?

Greez BTR :thanks:

Videotaped? But my DVDs are PAL 25fpsIt would have been helpful to mention this from the beginning. The show was made in the US and videotaped, which is at 29.97 FPS, regardless of where your DVDs are from. In any case, I seriously doubt deinterlacing is the answer. I can only suggest that you follow neuron2's instructions, both of uploading a sample and re-reading the forum rules to which we all agreed.

A short source video clip is now available here:

http://ultrashare.de/f/3097/king_of_queens.demuxed.rar.html

Please take a look at this and tell me which settings I have to take to get a good picture.

Can't download. Get this:

An error occured
The assigned ticket is not valid.

This could have the following causes:

- download-tickets are only valid for 15 minutes. That means that the download has to get started within 15 minutes.
- Your IP address doesn't match the one, that has been assigned to the ticket. Download tickets are bound to one IP address.
- The ticket doesn't exist.

I got it now.

You're in luck. It is progressive PAL with a one field phase shift. You can do this:

assumetff().telecide(post=false)

Or you can enable postprocessing if you get stray combs.

If the phase shift is constant throughout the movie, you can do it this way:

assumetff().separatefields().trim(1,0).weave()

I'm happy that you can help me, but I don't understand your reply. I don't write the AviSynth by myself. I just like to knot what to choose at this window:

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/5655/gknotsavewindowcx8.jpg

Please tell me every setting to choose on this window. That would be very kind.

Three problems for helping you:

1. The JPG is resized and illegible.

2. It appears to be in some foreign language.

3. I am not familiar with GKnot.

It is possible that GKnot doesn't support this transformation. If so, you will need to modify the script that Gordian Knot produces. Or, of course, you can avoid GKnot entirely and do everything manually.

Ok I will upload it again and can you upload an avisynth script screenshot? I'm not into the manual way!
I will set gknot to english language and upload this again!

Your latest link is dead.

It's not a complicated problem. Everything you need to know has already been told to you.

Post the script that GKnot gives you and I will tell you how to modify it.

ok thanks, but I only get a script if i set everything in this window!
http://img413.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gknotscreenshotud3.jpg
you have to click the image once to get it sharp!

so what should i set in this window? after this window i'll get i avisynth script...

Uncomment this line (remove the #):

#LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\GORDIA~1\AviSynthPlugins\decomb.dll")

and add this right after the mpeg2source() line:

telecide(order=1)

neuron2 i am confused because in old post you wrote:
-------
-------
Yes, it's phase-shifted progressive PAL. You can prove it with this script:

loadplugin("c:\dgmpgdec\dgdecode.dll")
mpeg2source("C:\tmp\Numaios\TwinPeaks.d2v")
assumetff()
separatefields()
trim(1,0) # delete first field
assumebff() # the trim makes it BFF
weave()
-------
-------
and now you write:

If the phase shift is constant throughout the movie, you can do it this way:

assumetff().separatefields().trim(1,0).weave()

What's the right script?
Thank you

Guest

They both work. In the second one, I omitted the AssumeBFF() because I found by using Info() that Avisynth adjusts the polarity when doing the trim. You can leave it in if you like.

Blumi's gone quiet. I wonder why.

BlumiTheRipper

i'm a newbie and don't know much aboubt avisynth scripts.

I don't know where to write the options you told me??
