Looks like a new version is going to be released at CES in a few days:

Does anybody know what the features of this 3ivx version 5.0 codec will be? Is it MPEG-4 ASP, AVC or what?

3ivx (if based on previous versions) is predominantly SP, though ASP support would be good.

I had the impression that they were working with AVC some years ago.

We've been working on our MPEG-4 SP/ASP filter suite for the last few years, all the time releasing it to OEMs for integration with their applications.

5.0 is basically the culmination of that development, its a rock solid, commercial quality mpeg-4 filter suite.

After 5.0 our H.264 skunkworks will kick in to over drive.

what sort of market uses MPEG4-SP nowadays? I guess it would be some sort of mobile market, but I cannot for the life of me guess which area. Mobile phones, perhaps?

Most recent mobile phones are already able to playback AVC content (expecially LG cellphones)...
