Hi, I am sure there are multiple posts regarding the ripping/encoding of multi-episode DVDs but I couldn’t find them (sorry).

I just got an early Christmas present of 3 sets of DVDs and since I travel a lot I have learned that taking the original disks is a bad idea so I set to ripping encoding them using DVD Decrypter/AutoGK by ripping each episode at a time with DVD decrypter (a real PITA) then encoding each with AutoGK.

So my question is: Is there an easier way to say just rip the whole disk then rip each episode (in order)?

Thanks for the help,

-Gaiko

That way seems pretty easy to me.

Once you've ripped all the dvd video file to the HD, then you could either use AutoGK or Gordian Knot to encode them. Just use the batch/queing system in these programs so that you're not back at the pc every hour or so to setup and start the next episode. Spend maybe 10 minutes getting them already and then start the queue and let it run over night or for a while till they're all done

I reckon you use Gordian Knot. I forget how AutoGK used to work, but Gordian Knot gives you a lot more options and control over your encoding and also is good to manage multiple jobs. You can create and save profiles/settings so that you don't have to repeat the same tedious task numerous times. This also makes sure that all the episodes will have the same settings/filesize/audio etc.

Some things I find helpful in DVD Decrypter:
Use IFO mode which will make it much easier.
I also choose 'no splitting' in the dvd decrypter options so that the video file for each episode is one big vob - This isn't really necessary though.

There might be an easier way to do all this, but this way is pretty easy imo

Robot4Rip is a godsend for backing up multi-episode DVDs. It's included in the Gordian Knot Rip Pack:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gordianknot/GordianKnot.RipPack.0.35.0.Setup.2.exe?download

Make sure you configure and use it according to this guide: http://www.doom9.org/r4r-guide.htm

Be meticulous, there's someting about R4R that makes it easy to configure wrong and hard to fix.
