about Xvid and DivX

well the focus of the Xvid project is encoding. The decoder exists mostly to qualify Xvid as an official codec.

ffdshow uses the ffmpeg libraries, and is much more optimized. I would also highly recommend using ffdshow to decode MPEG-4 ASP.

For AVC, CoreAVC has a significant advantage still.
