Allow me to sum up what I'm trying to go for as simply as possible:
File 1: Good XviD encode, great quality, but I borked the beginning and a little segment in the middle.
File 2: (Or Files 2) The missing beginning segment and glitched middle segment, except not glitched.
What I'd like to do is reencode File 2 so that I can replace the glitched/missing stuff in File 1 WITHOUT having to reencode File 1 as well. Basically, do a splice or direct stream copy of File 1 with some newly-recoded stuff from File 2.
The problem I'm running into is that I keep getting a "video formats do not match" or similar error in whatever program I attempt to do this in. I'm guessing this is because when I reencode File 2 I'm not picking the proper encoding settings. (Then again, I could be missing something else.) How, pray tell, can I find the proper encoding settings (or whatever else it is I'm missing) so that I can splice the new video into my existing XviD file?
