I ripped my movies to my hard drive using DVD Decrypter. They ended up as .VOB and .IFO files and are just of the main movie itself, which is what I wanted. However, I noticed when I played the .VOB files in MPC, they got "scanliney". This happened when there was some amount of motion.

This is a screen cap from the movie, The Wild. I have the original disc and it doesn't appear like this when I play it. I'm using MPC to play all my video files. What's going on here? I just ripped the main .VOB file from the disc and that was that. I didn't change anything.

PS: Can anyone tell me how to find out the exact resolution and framerate of a DVD movie? :)

It's a normal effect of playing a ripped DVD file. You'll need to play the ripped .VOB in your software DVD player in order to have it look right.

Read and search. Your question has been asked and answered many times before. Keep in mind too that all DVD movies are 29.97 fps at 720 x 480 (NTSC) or 25 fps at 720 x 576 (PAL).

It's a normal effect of playing a ripped DVD file. You'll need to play the ripped .VOB in your software DVD player in order to have it look right.I didn't see this effect when playing the same .VOB under Windows Media Player v.9 or good ol' v.6.4...

Media Player Classic doesn't count as DVD playing software? I just tried ripping the DVD again with DVDFab Decrypter and I got the same result. Could the problem be a codec or maybe my burner? It's a brand new LG SuperMulti.

Perhaps you didn't read my post.

Try playing it under Windows Media Player and see if you have the same problem. I played the IDENTICAL part of "The Wild" from my hard drive and there were no such lines. if doing so also indicates no such lines for you, you'll know that there's nothing wrong with the rip...
