all recent rips off in final size

First off I have read the undersize/oversize sticky and tried it but with mixed results. I have been ripping for a long time (several years) with GK and every now and thing something gets messed up and my rips start coming out either too small or too big and I do mean everything. I backup a few regular shows using the same process and hardware and up until two days ago they always hit 349/350 megs now they are starting to be off by as much as 30/50 megs. I have triple checked I am using (as I always do) 128kbps CBR MP3 streams most from AC3 (TV captures vary). See below for the TV capture process. I assume it’s a setting somewhere that I am missing or the data in the registry is not changing as it should be or perhaps not being read. Also all my DVD rips (rarely do I have to correct anything) are also coming out in off sizes (very off upto 350 megs). Few things to note frame rates have not changed deinterlacing done with built in BOB. Always Xvid (1.0.3), always 128kbps MP3 CBR audio. DVD's always 2 CD, 30 min TV shows at 350 megs. The fact that nothing is coming out as it should anymore make me assume setting but I just don’t know what to look for anymore and while I have read I can read the stats file I don’t know what I would be looking for. Same goes for the first pass and second pass settings. The only logical thing could be the use of BOB for deinterlacing but I have not had issues in the past and prefer it to Tom’s.


Any ideas? I do have the recent AVS and STATS files if that helps.

Deleting all configs and even redoing the TS to PS stream process and re-ripping DVD’s.



TV Capture to AVI Process
Moto 3416 (no 5c)->(transport stream over firewire)->D-VHS (v0.3.0.6)->HDTVtoMPEG2->DGIndex->GK->AVI

Did you recently install a newer version of XviD? If so, uninstall and reinstall it. Installing over an existing version will cause your problem.

As a sort of control test I made three rips of a file I already ripped that was at the correct size of 350meg. All using Xvid 1.1

Ripped using Smart Bob = 329megs
Ripped using TomsMoComp = 329megs
Ripped using no deinterlace = 329megs

I double checked to make sure the normal settings I use for TV captures was correct and this was the same TS file I use for the file the ripped correctly.



Any other ideas?

Intesting note I just tired a rip using divix 5 and it come out correct so the issue is only with xvid...

Are you using H.263 or MPEG matrix?

Can you post the first pass filesize?
To know this, use the StatsReader and open the .pass / STAT file, or just post the file here (or upload it to a file hosting website) ...
