the r1 ver. I'm watching has forced subs thru out the movie which are displayed in whichever lang. you start the movie in. The odd thing is that (at least with my sony and pioneer players) if you switch subs ON then OFF with the remote, from that point on the forced subs are displayed in spanish only. The only way to restore english forced subs is to return to the main menu,go to lang.click no subs and return to the movie. The same thing happens with french. I was wondering if this is my players fault(I sorta doubt) or if they authored the disk poorly and if they did what was done wrong

I've seen that same behavior with many DVDs...

considering that forced subs are an intergel part of this title (169 for en.), and I need to turn the optional subs on and off several times to catch dialogue i'm missing i made a quick movie only play disk on a rw that works fine. I noticed that on a pc w/power dvd you can switch optional and forced subs at will, in any combination with no problem. If you wanted to you can have en. lang, fr. subs, and es. forced all at the same time. (or any other combo) On standalones the forced subs seemed to be set initially from the default or chosen audio. When you turn subs on and off with the remote your actually going english, french, spanish, off. I think the player takes the last active sub and resets the forced subs to it, which in this case is spanish. maybe they could of "bound" the forced subs to the active audio stream to retain full function of the disk.
In this regard I'd consider this title a defective product
