Hi,
Does anyone know how to direct stream copy a VOB file with virtualdub or virtualdubmod?

Or know of any other program that has image preview like virtualdub which can do this?

VirtualDubMod can open VOB files but to output with Direct Stream Copy youŽll need to export to .MKV
Anyhow, this .MKV might not be compatible with all splitters. Y may even crash your "explorer.exe".
What do you have in mind to do with the copied VOB? (as it will determine the software that youŽll need to use to achieve your goal)

Cheers.

Try Cuttermaran.

Hi! (Presuming the file is already decrypted)

Another option would be to use "MPEG2Cut"...

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I tried cuttermaran and downloaded .net framework 1.1 but it didnt work for me.

I also tried mpeg2cut but the VOB has 2 audio streams and i tried selecting audio track 2 but I still ended up with the first audio stream. I don't really know anything about the encoding process but when I used mpeg2cut it seemed that it was not directly copying but was doing some processing. Well I want to direct stream copy because I don't want any quality loss at all.

I tried avidemux 2.3 preview 2 because the latest versions download link on the official website seems to be broken. Well avidemux 2.3 preview 2 couldn't open the file.

Guess I will have to settle with reduced quality, I probably wouldn't notice the quality reduction, but still I wish I could direct stream copy.

In reply to Skelsgard I haven't actually copied the VOB onto hard drive I was using the DVD as the source.

I was using the DVD as the sourceWas it a commercial DVD? If so, you'll have to decrypt/rip it first to get anything to work properly with it.when I used mpeg2cut it seemed that it was not directly copying but was doing some processing. This is incorrect...

No idea, but does virtualdubmod, virtualdub-mpeg2 or mpeg2cut automatically decrypt the file because I was able to open the file with all 3 programs. I was able to direct stream copy the audio stream with both virtualdubmod and virtualdub-mpeg2. I was even able to cut out part of the unprocessed VOB file with mpeg2cut.

Now I realized something about the mpeg2cut file I created, it actually has both audio streams. Mpeg2cut was different from virtualdubmod and virtualdubmpeg2 because when I opened the unprocessed VOB file with virtualdubmod or virtualdubmpeg2 they gave me a choice between the 2 audio streams. I assumed that mpeg2cut was like virtualdubmod and virtualdubmpeg2 in that you had to choose the audio stream you wanted. What confused me was the audio menu in mpeg2cut which allowed you to choose the track number and because mplayer (the media player I use) defaulted to the first audio stream when I opened the mpeg2cut file I created.

I don't really understand mpeg2cut because it doesn't have an option called direct stream copy and under the video menu it has colorspace and YUV->RGB. Those two sub menus were part of the reason that I thought it did processing.

Well I tried avidemux on the VOB file I copied to the hard drive and this time it worked, guess it was because using the DVD as source avidemux wasn't able to create a file which is a result of indexing done by avidemux (write a new file to the dvd).

Well my issue is solved since both avidemux and mpeg2cut can do what I want but can you explain decryption since i didn't decrypt the file and it still worked when I copied the VOB to the hard drive. Can you also explain what the colorspace and YUV->RGB sub menus in mpeg2cut are for.

What is the Title and Region of the DVD? Is it, in fact, a commercial DVD or a copy (which would be unprotected) of a commercial DVD?

According to the nero info tool the
type is DVD Video
size is 6.91GB
file system is ISO9660, UDF
title is fruits_1_9_SCN
region is All

title is fruits_1_9_SCNI'm sure that's not what it says on the label or packaging but, I'm guessing it doesn't contain any copy protection and, hence, it didn't require any decrypting.

What is the title per the label or packaging?

Can you also explain what the colorspace and YUV->RGB sub menus in mpeg2cut are for please?
