During installation of AGK I am asked wether I would like to add "Standalone compatibility" for
- MTK/Sigma based standalones
- ESS based standalones
Are these exotic options ?
When do I need them ?
When happens when they are needed and they are NOT installed as standalone options ?

MTK/Signma and ESS are chipsets used in stand-alone-players. These are options that restrict the features of the encoder so that the results will play on particular stand-alone-players based on those chipsets. What type of standalone player do you have (if any), if you have bought it recently you probably do not need to worry about this. Keeping these unchecked will give you a "slightly" better picture.
You can always turn this feature on or off by pressing cntr-F9 and check the appropriate item in the bottom right corner of the dialog.
Here is a good place to go to find out what chipset your SAP uses.
