No valid DVD-Video volume

So, I havent decided to make backups of my dvds till recently when I bought a new 250gig sata hard drive. I was trying to figure out how to split a DVD9 to two DVD5s. My first attempts led me to accidentally make an mds image of the file thinking dvd decrypter would split it automatically.
I had to give up the original disk to my brother who took it to his' friend's house that night. I ended up having to do file mode after reading online on how to do it from that mounted image. That dvd went well and burnt with no problems after.

I then decided to back up my other dvds. I pulled out the recently bought movies and stuck them in. After going straight from file mode ifoedit would give me an error when trying to play the movie files: *No valid DVD-Video volume could be located, Do you still want to continue?

I tried burning that with nero even though it said that and nero gave me errors and asked if I'd like to ignore it, which I did. Bad thing there and wasted a dvd. It did not play in a standard top player like my other did. After hours of trying to figure out why, I found out that if I ejected the movie from the dvd drive and tried to play it, I'd get the errors. When I didnt eject the movie from the drive I wouldnt get the errors.

With the new 250 gig drive and my 2 80gig drives in raid 0, I dont mind spending more space just to make a backup iso to keep this error from happening but I'd like to know is there anyway to get around this? It's just kinda ghetto to have to re copy two versions on the same hard drive. Of course if I just start off with the iso file first and just rip the files from that it'd be faster because of the speed of the hard drives, but it's just time consuming.

Yufflez - you are new, so I'll point you to rule 6. Although you are not trying to copy a DVD you don't own, we do not wish to even discuss the fact that friends of your brother are copying your DVD - even for you.

Now, the easiest way to split a DVD is to decrypt the full disk in file mode with RipIt4Me. Then use VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm) - guide to splitting on site.

As for Ner0, my recommendatiuon is to change to freeware ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com).

Oh, well first off, thank you.

I should of mentioned it a bit clearer. What I ment is that he took the original to his friend that night so at that moment I didnt get to copy the files from it because I first thought the splitting on dvd decrypter in the options for iso read mode would split it for me in two dvds, which it looked like it did but only made 3 files, 1 mds file and two others, forgot right now... and I dont have Alcohol 120%. I decided to do this now was partly in fact of the new hard drive and me having the space, the other half was because he was taking a new movie I just bought and I didnt have time to watch it my self and he wouldnt be back in till a week from when he left. Then I decided since it was so easy I'll just back up the rest now since I apparently have the room to do so.

Either way, that is not legal - neither your brother not his friend had the right to decrypt and copy your DVD - only you do. Please do not mention this again.

Where is this implied? He just said his brother took it to a friend's house. Nothing to suggest they did anything but watch it.

lol, squid gets what I mean/said. No one but me around my neighborhood has the knowledge that I do with computers. They would not know how to install a simple program for their life probably. They took the original and I was left with an iso form of the movie at the time on my computer. I was doing the decrypting, not them lol.


It took me about a week to find out that it was because of the original dvd or a mounted version of the iso was not mounted/in the dvd drive to figure out this problem. But in reality it's only been like maybe 24 hours total time span that I spent on it. I dont have that much dvds to burn, just a few and didnt attempt it again till I got my cross crunch in the mail and wanted to back up the dvd in case I accidentally drop it while working out but kept getting that error and just gave up for now. It wasnt till I bought world trade center the other day ago and was getting the same error and it just bugged me then. So I tested things out and found out why it was saying that. I have no idea why you would need the original dvd in another drive to decrypt the files and split them or burn them with nero with no errors. Wanted to know if there was an easier way so I posted here. First one that I did was that new pirates of the caribbean. Couldnt figure out why world trade center was giving me that error as well as that cross crunch dvd till now. Well, I just finshed burning the movie at 16x on tdk media and it works fine now. Just forgot to remove the P-UPs on the first disk... lol But I think I'll just pull off one of the dvd burners on my other computers and stick them with a normal drive for now. Since I kinda dont like the idea of having more then one cd/dvd drive on a computer.
