Editing menu graphics to remove a button?

Ok, so I used Vob Blanker to strip out a French audio track, and then I used PGC Edit to hide the button for the French audio track in the settings menu. I used "Jump to non-deleted button" option.

However, the button is still visible in the menu, in both the still and the brief video clip leading up to the still.

How do I export the menu cells so I can edit them? and how do I swap in the new menu? Are there speciifc applications for this?

I all ready dumped a BMP of the still and edited out the button with a paint program. Now I'm stuck.

I haven't read through the whole thread myself, but you may find what you are trying to achieve is quite a bit more complex than you'd hoped. :eek:

It is very easy to do with VobBlanker.

Download the free version of MuxMan and set the path for it VobBlanker.

Using VobBlanker, navigate to the menu screen you want to repalce. Select to still it. Then select "File" (below I Frame selection) from the drop down menu and select the .bmp file you edited on your hardrive. You have the chioce of keeping the original audio if you wish. Hit OK. Then process the disc.

Yes, VobBlanker has automated many steps of the guide, and is easy to use, when you know that you have to still your menu to be able to replace the background image. (BTW, you can also drag and drop your BMP over the Still window to replace the cell.)

Unfortunately, it is not possible to replace an animated menu (or intro) with this method. It's very complex, as that requires to demux everything, modify the animated video, and reauthor the menu exactly as in the original, and finally to replace it with VobBlanker. IMO, that job is too difficult with the currently available tools.

For replacing the background of a still menu, you can follow this little tutorial: HOW TO REPLACE A MENU BACKGROUND WITH VOBBLANKER (http://www.goonix.biz/download/tutorials/replacebackground.htm)

If you however want to remove a button from a motion background, then you can follow the guide that zacoz has mentioned.
The most difficult part is to edit the background movie.
You have to use a NLE like Adobe Premiere or similar.

Or convert the motion menu to a still menu with MenuShrink or the Motion2Still function of VobBlanker and go the easy way.

Ah, very good, thanks for the help. I did poke around for a tutorial first, but its hard to know what you are looking for, and there are a lot of obsoleted guides on here, too.

I thought I would be able to export the menu whole, edit it, and then re-import it... I see now why its so complicated: before you can edit any pieces, you have to fully demux, do your editing, and then remux.

Anyway, I like the simplified Vob Blanker solution. The deleted button is still visible during the brief animation, but once the the still snaps into place and the menu becomes interactive, the button is gone. Thats good enough, as it should be abundantly clear to the user that that option is not availble.

I do have a full copy of Adobe Premier, so maybe I'll take a crack at the full video edit later.

Many times there is a transtion cell which is animated and finally one still with the selections is played. The transition cell, in its last part, shows the original still, to make the transition smooth. In that case, you'll see the original background for a moment and finally the new one (with the deleted buttons)
Sometimes, what I do is to cut the last part of the transition cell (also with VobBlanker), so you will not see the original background at all. This method can produce a glitch in the audio, but many times the stills have no audio...and it is really easy to do.

Interesting point! I can see how this would work well for a lot of DVDs. Also, sometimes there is a pause while it switches from video to the still, so snipping off the end of the video would smooth that over completly on certain DVDs.
