using purevideo with .mkv files?

if you have installed the h264 decoder variant of purevideo, just disable any other h264 decoders on your system.

There's a special h264 variant of purevideo? I thought the "regular" purevideo was just updated with the display drivers? (or rather, the display drivers made purevideo use h264).
Where can I find this h264 variant? I fond info about "Purevideo hd", but nowhere to download it/buy it.

'purevideo decoder' is only for MPEG2. I'm reasonably sure purevideo HD is the piece of software you require. I don't know any other details sorry.

That's what I thought.

The thing is, it works if I play a .TS file which is encoded in h264, but not if I try .mkv files. When I play .mkv files it uses FFDSHOW to decode it and if I disable the h264 decoder in FFDSHOW I don't get a picture at all.

I thought the Cyberlink H.264 decoder could use purevideo acceleration if you had the right version of PureVideo HD and the right version of the Cyberlink codecs. I could be wrong though.

Purevideo is both a codec/frontend AND a Hw/driver technology by Nvidia. Purevideo codec is Mpeg2 only afaik, on the other hand Purevideo technology does support Hw acceleration for H.264 (and WMV9 too), but in this case you need a codec by a third part that takes advantage of this technology. Cyberlink's made a codec that does it (for PowerDVD 6 and 7, as an addon pack), latest Nero HD codecs too. Not high quality but there you have it...
Does anybody know when the new Mainconcept H.264 codec will be out in Demo?

Mainconcept/Elecard's h264 decoder is available as a demo plugin but only to be used with Elecard Mpeg Player (also available in demo) or Elecard DVD Player (there's a demo for it as well). Just look on the product page of those two players for download links.

Anyway, it's easy setting the codec you want to open MKV files using, for example, KMPlayer...
