View Full Version : ? on cutting and joining different movie clips

Ok, I have a question that covers a few areas of video editing.

Ok, I have 13 movies. (actually, 14...but the last one is separate)

From these 13 movies, I want to cut out a music video section, let's say a particular musical sequence that covers a song from start to finish. On ALL 13 DVDs, they have english subtitles. So therefore, I wish to cut out, lets say 6 minutes of the movie WITH the subtitles intact.

So after all 13 music numbers are cut out...what I want to do then, is to JOIN all of them together. So like a short movie, but just with music videos...so one song (WITH THE ENGLISH SUBTITLES) plays right after one another.

NEXT, after joining all these sections...I want them all to be JUST as a VIDEO_TS folder...I hope I can do this WITHOUT having to convert to .avi format. I also wish to retain top sound quality. I do NOT wish to lose any quality whatsoever in video as well.

So, I am guessing there will be several .vob files within the folder...IF i burn this to DVD, will I be able to play this like any other DVD?

So yes, this is a gift I need to give before Eid (on the 31st december)...so I would love an answer...

Thank you in advance for the help. Please let me know any and all software I need..

Oh yes, the 14th music video is separate...so yes, i will have 2 different DVDs...ONE with the 13 song sequence, and 2nd DVD is ONLY the 14th song by itself.

{All 14 movies are Hindi films...and for those who know about them, they all have musical numbers in them...so this gift is about getting those 13 together on one disc, and the last on another from 14 different DVDs...}

I hope this is the right forum for me to post this. This is my first time posting a question...and I am not too familiar with searching.

From what I have heard, it is easier to convert all 14 movies into .avi format...and then cut them. But that takes too much time, right? Also, I was told that once those 14 pieces are converted back to DVD file format, ie. .vob & .ifo files, you would need a DVD authoring tool to make the whole DVD playable on any player...so I am lost. I was also told that maybe it's easier to also make a menu so you can play any of the 13 chapters (music videos/numbers) on that one DVD...of course the 14th would play just the ONE video by itself...

If you don't need a menu, and you don't mind a tiny playback pause in between each song, you could just use Dvd Shrink in Re-Author mode to "cut" the section from each dvd, and load them all into one long project.

If you want the songs as chapters in a single long video, you could try this next way, but you end up without any menu.
This is pretty easy, and uses all freeware.

I know there are also several guides for doing this with a menu, but don't have the links handy at the moment.

However, with DVD shrink, it takes WHOLE chapters...whereas I only need about 5-7 minutes from each movie. Sometimes, the songs start at the beginning of a chapter, sometimes in the middle...so I need to only EXTRACT those 5-7 minutes only.

Even thought you are not familiar with search, it is expected you read (at least once before posting) the forum rules. Specifically:

8) No cross posting. Post your message once, to the appropriate forum and nowhere else or it will be locked or deleted without warning.

Sorry for being so unfriendly, but I see no point in posting the same question on multiple forums at the same time. It just makes the reading through the forums very uncomfortable for people not fully interested by your discussion...

You could use MPEGVCR (http://www.womble.com) to edit the clips you want and join them together into one "movie". I believe MPEGVCR knows how to work with VOBs. It won't re-encode what you join together, but you will have to author a DVD. I believe that MPEGVCR lets you try before you buy, so see if that works and if it does, you could use IFOEdit to create a very simple DVD with no menu.

You do NOT need to convert to AVI to edit your video. That is a lie that continues to be spread by ignorant people who don't know about editors like VideoReDo (http://www.videoredo.com) and MPEGVCR. You could also try VideoReDo instead of MPEGVCR if you want. It's similar, but I prefer MPEGVCR.

@EuropeanMan

Hi!However, with DVD shrink, it takes WHOLE chaptersLook carefully at the "Re-author" window, after you've "dragged and dropped" a Title into it. The sliders will allow you to select whatever Start points and End points you wish anywhere in the entire Title...

Ok, i downloaded the trial version of TEMPGenc DVD Author. I tried it out on a movie. I disected a 5minute30second clip. It works perfectly so far. HOWEVER, this clip covers 2 chapters. Is there any way, for me to combine those 2 chapters (in the new DVD) as one? I set up a menu for this master DVD, and it shows both chapters...
