Zune vs ipod
As most of us have known ipod well, there is no need to say more. But what is Zune?
According to Chris Stephenson, Microsoft General Manager of Marketing for the MSN Entertainment Business, Zune is an umbrella brand for what he says is “a family of hardware and software products” targeting various digital entertainment services.
The first implementation of this will be the portable music player and digital music service…
Additional Zune-branded devices will follow, including a portable video player and, potentially, a portable game device, although Stephenson would not comment on the videogame element of the initiative.
At the same time, a lot of companies have developed some products for Zune (Xilisoft Zune Video Converter of Xilisoft etc).
Xilisoft Zune Video Converter helps you convert Zune video via so comprehensive video file formats including AVI, MPEG, DivX, RM, RMVB, MOV, ASF, VOB to Zune WMV, MP4, MPEG4 video file formats. The Zune video converter also supports convert popular audio files including WAV, RA, AC3, MP2, APE, OGG, CDA to Zune MP3, WMA, AAC.
Here are some comparisons between ipod and Zune.
Now I’ll list some key differences between Zune and ipod.
First of all, appearance:
iPod features a 2.5 inch diagonal screen, while the Zune has a slightly larger 3.0 inch diagonal screen. In addition, ipod is a little thinner.
Then Storage:
iPod : 30GB, 60GB, 80GB,
Zune : 30GB(at present).
OS Support :
Zune only supports Windows. iPod, supports both Windows and Mac.
WiFi:
The current iPod features no Wi-fi connectivity. However, Zune is 802.11g Wifi enabled, and you can search for and connect to another Zune in your vicinity.
FM Radio:
Zune has a built-in FM tuner. But if you want to listen to radio on iPod, you have to buy an accessory.
Battery:
The battery Life of Zune is reported to be up to 13 hours, when listening to music with the wireless turned on. With the wireless off, battery life is up to 14 hours and up to approximately 4 hours for video or pictures, all of which is similar to earlier rumors and informal comments. However, some folks think the testing conditions are wildly unrealistic.
By comparison, Apple’s 30GB iPod is rated at 14/4 hours (music/video) and the 80GB iPod at 20/6 hours.
