I need a few short (20-30sec) samples with different resolution
720p, 1080i encoded to vc-1 for HD-DVD.
Thanks in advance.

Here, try these (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/musicandvideo/hdvideo/contentshowcase.aspx).
It's weird they're on a WMP9 page, but unless I'm mistaken, I think these are all WMV3/VC-1 HD-DVD compliant sample files.

Hmmmm....
I'm able to play all those HD WMV9 samples using my stand-alone player.... But I'm unable to play VC-1.... So I guess they have not been encoded to VC-1 spec :scared:

Indeed. VC-1 compliance and HD-DVD compliance are not the same thing, just like MPEG-2 compliance and DVD compliance are not the same thing.

That doesn't make sense. WMV9 is VC-1.

ahh, thx Bond, I see. It's all explained very nicely right here, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VC-1#WMV3)(from where I've taken the phrases in quotes below):
"The Windows Media Video 9 (WMV3) codec implements the Simple and Main modes of the VC-1 codec standard".
WMV-HD is still Main Profile - it's just "Main Profile @ High Level (MP@HL)."
I assume what vsv needs is "WVC1, also known as Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile, [which] implements the Advanced Profile of the VC-1 codec standard".
OK, what about the two files here (http://samples.mplayerhq.hu/V-codecs/WVC1/). They won't play for me, that's a good start ;)

What do they not play on?

That doesn't make sense. WMV9 is VC-1.That's what I thought too.... but you try telling Sigma Designs Inc (http://www.sigmadesigns.com/public/index.html) that....
They don't seem very keen at adding VC-1 support to their EM8620L chip-set

But what VC-1 content were you trying to play? Your statement doesn't make much sense unless you specify what content (container, fourcc, profile) you were trying to play.

It's a 19.8MB sample called "TheNoteBook"
Which I think is still available from here (http://dvbportal.dyn1.de/ts/thenotebook-vc1-1080p.wmv).

That's encoded with WMV9 Advanced Profile. Rarely any hardware chipsets support it yet.

Sorry, been a few crazy weeks.
As Zambelli says, it's not broadly supported in chipsets quite yet (VC1 definitely is, but not so much WVC1 in WMV wrappers yet).
