sorry if this question has been answered before but i can't find the preivous posts on it and the search functin is disabled :(

my problem is this: I encoded TheMatrix (139min) to svcd and it took about 17 hrs on my machine (900Mhz Athlon, 288MB ram, Windows2000 SP2)

I used DVD2SVCD 1.0.5.b2

Is it supposed to take this long or is there something that i'm missing?

P.S. i followed doom9's guide on encoding it to svcd

It sound right to me. I always downsample the audio und use 3passVBR and get times like you.
If you want to save time, disable audio downsampling. It is 'violating' the SVCD specification, but almost all standalone-players and PCs will play the resulting SVCD.
If you want to save more time, chose 1PassVBR or CBR, it will go much faster, but you will get less quality (or more CDs per movie)
Read the Q&A for both downsampling an 1passVBR, there are some hints in there.
