Xvid/Divx files/how to change res to 480x272 to fit fullscreen on Archos 604 ?

Hi....

Can someone please help.

I have just bought an Archos 604 Multimedia player.

I have many Xvid and Divx files on my p.c (at various resolutions) and wish to put them onto the Archos.

But the resolution of the Archos screen is 480x272....when I put the files onto it from p.c, it cuts off some of the top and the bottom on the Archos screen?

I'm assuming it's because the res of the original files on the p.c is not 480x272,some are higher and some lower.

Question is ....What is the best software to use, to re-size the resolution of Xvid and Divx files to 480x272....?
So that I can view the files in full screen on the Archos.

I really don't know what tools you are using but this may help you.

Load and install autogk or Dr. Divx. Both of them will take an *.avi file as input. Select your original avi file, select with width that you want (480) on the advanced screens and then tell it to encode...and wait.

Sorry for the noobie-ness...but I have not used any tools so far....just wandered,what software I would need.

So if I use Dr.Divx can I select width and height....or just width as you have mentioned?

Once you select the width it should select the height automatically. Try that and see if works with a short clip. If that does not work you can manually set the height, but that is generally a bad idea since you can lose your aspect ratio.

Also, is there any requirements for frame rate. Some of those boxes require 15fps not the standard 23.97.

Does the archos box have any DivX certification? If so you can simply set Dr DivX to that certification and tell it to go.

I have made a big assumption here in that the Archos 604 will play divx or xvid's avi files. If will only play mp4s then you will need to go to a more elaborate program like AutoMKV that will convert avi's to mp4's.

Was there no software included? Generally these companies will give you something to use.
