Been thinking of going with PHILIPS DVP642 which has good personal reviews.. This players for a family member so just looking for something that's going to have the most compatibility should I send them Divx/Xvid on dvd's etc. ?

Automatic startup of Discs would be good along with subtitles nice..

Please read and follow forum rules, specifically, rule 12: do not ask what's best.

DVP-642 is good because it's cheap. But you should get DVP-5140 instead if you can get your hands on it. It's the upgrade version of DVP-642.

You should read the Buyer's Guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=98228) topic, and this website (http://home.wi.rr.com/ntngod/dvp642_vs_dvp5140/) if you're considering a DVP-642.

Thanks, like the USB option on the 5160 so might go that route thus far..

That's DVP-5960. From reviews, it seems like the USB port on that player is unable to read from hard drives without their own power supply. Flash drives work fine but I'm guessing 2.5" external USB hard drives probably won't. 3.5" external USB drives usually come with their own power adapter so those should be good. I'm planning to buy a DVP-5960 to replace my aging DVP-642.

It's back to $54.99 + tax. The coupon already expired 12/6. I was trying to buy one before but even if it's listed as in stock, I couldn't buy. Tried checking out in the regular online store and it doesn't remove it from the cart when you check out from there. I guess regular customers are given priority...

Jeez....

Please don't buy the Phiilps DVP642... For the reasons I have mentioned too many times already on this forum ;)

Does anyone know how to make the player auto-play like the DVP642 does it need a firmware or is there a setting?

I would like the player to auto play all Divx/XVID in there? (this is the 5960 obviously)
