Muxing and demuxing vc-1

Hi,

I own a few large 1080p .avi holding wmv video and ac3 audio.

The thing is i would like to demux the video and the audio to remux then into a .wmv.

I managed to dump the video from my avi with graphedit but i can't do anything with the resulting file.

Get SMMASF_2006_03_02.zip, register it, and you'll be able to mux to asf (which is wmv) in graphedit, or even just use their nifty tool to do it.

One additional note: playback of WMVs with AC3 audio will only be possible via DirectShow. If you use a WMFSDK-based player such as WMP or MCE, it will complain about a lack of audio codec - because that platform is only able to use DMO and ACM type audio codecs.

what's the point to remux into wmv,isn't is better to keep the original ac3 track?

The use is playback on the Xbox 360. Audio however needs to be reencoded to WMA Pro 5.1, which is then reencoded on-the-fly to AC3 during playback.

And yes, of course keeping AC3 would be better. Jump In.

To be honest, i asked the question because i want to be ready the day i manage to grab an hd-dvd/blu-ray authoring programs allows me to use vc-1.

Here are some more details. The tool has some features, I was missing in all other tools.

- It is DirectShow based, so you can mux / encode everything, you have filters for (provided the ASF Writer accepts the raw data).
- For streams you can choose to demux, encode and direct stream copy (!)
- It uses the ASF Writer and handles all features for compliant streams, that play on PC, XBox and Sigma chips
- It works with profiles (ok, that can other tools too :) )

What you don't get:

- VC-1 ES stream I/O (maybe later, when the specs are clear)
- Image processing features
- Preview / monitoring window

Is the VC-1 Es stream I/O what would be required if we wanted to convert a EVO HD-DVD rip to a Xbox 360 compliant HD WMV stream?

When the EVO is VC-1 encoded, than yes, that's exactly what is needed. I got VC-1 ES input running for reencoding using the Sonic HD Muxer, but there are some probs like:

- direct stream copy does not work for VC-1 ES
- MediaInfoDll does not recognize VC-1 ES streams

I really would like to get VC-1 ES muxing running, but the graph stops soon and reports sucess. The written WMV however ist just a few Ks.
