Divx Encode Question (stutter skips)

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone else experiences “stutter skips” during playback on a divx encode? When I say stutter skips I mean during playback for a second the movie will slightly fast forward in picture and audio. Is this common for divx encodes, and if so, are there any solutions?

I just recently learned how to encode dvd rips while using GordianKnot, 4.11 or 4.12 divx codec, 2 pass vbr. I follwed the Gknot guides to a tee, and also asked many questions while learning. Gknot produces beautiful looking divx movies, but through out the play back (Every now & then) I experience this problem and was wondering If I can have some feedback on this issue.

Before I used GKnot, I used FlaskMpeg and also experienced this every now & then, so I am not blaming the GKnot prog, I'm just wondering if there is anything I am missing? For the record I have a PIII, 900MHz, 40 gig, 256MB memory, 32MB video memory.

Which audio codec to use with which settings? Always give full file and system information since it helps others to make suggestions.

Okay next time I encode using Gknot I will save the info for that. I know I follow the Gknot guide and when I load the audio, it is one of the ac3 files that DVD2AVI extracts. I usually set the audio bitrate to 192kbps

Do you mux them AC3 file with the AVI file? Or do you convert the AC3 file to something different?

To better answer your questions since I am fairly new to this, I placed a few Gknot images on my page and wrote in text what I do for the audio. Let me know if I missed something.

I don't know if it's the same problem but I used to have the same thing happen when I switched CD burning programs. Nero would automatically create an image in Mode 2 instead of Mode 1 which is faster to read on a CD drive. After switching them to Mode 1 I had perfect playback. You may have been playing them from your hard drive though. Just a suggestion.

Yeah thanks for the suggestion, but I was running them from my hard drive right after encode process and haven't even burned them to a cd yet.

I'm sure I'll figure it out soon enough, I really do enjoy the clarity while using gknot, 4.12 divx codec.

Your problem may be that you're using VBR audio. Try using the "Just Mux" option to directly use the AC3 file for audio. Or uncheck the "Delete Wav" option, encode your own MP3 file ( CBR, not VBR ) and then mux it in Nandub ( open final AVI file, click on Video | Direct Stream Copy, then on Audio | MP3, choose your MP3 file, save the new file under a new name ).
