DirectShowSource vs Mpeg2source for DVD video?

I know people usually used mpeg2source with d2v files, but is it possible to simply use a directshowsource on the vob file and encode using that? Or are there downsides to this method?

So it really shouldn't matter if you are just going to do a simple encode in Megui? Because if it doesn't, this should save me a step :3

You'll be at the mercy of your installed DirectShow decoder filter. If it is good and does what you want...

Mahsah, I'll side with neuron2 on this.

What I love about MPEG2Source is the control. You can specify how it denoises, the quality of the decoder (if I'm not mistaken, the IEEE-1180 reference guarantees absolute best quality, at the expense of decoding time). With directshow decoders, you often have no idea and no control over the quality of the decoder. So I always play it safe and use MPEG2Source.
