Any recommendations? It's for real-time video surveillance... Preferably it encodes to MPEG4 as well

There is a model available at Fry's Electronics that has the same ratings as the DVRC-DFM16, which if I remember correctly is $249 at the store.

Is there an API or something? Cos we're using our own software.

BTW what does 480/240fps mean?

What is an API? Those devices come with their own software.

The 480/240 refers to the framerate at which it can capture video. It varies depending on certain factors (that one may depend on either the number of cameras being used or the quality of the capture) but 30 ips is about all most cameras output.

On my company's, it means 16 cameras: 15fps @ 640x480 or 30fps @ 320x240. Depending on the card you can usually get 30fps @ 640x480 if you have 8 or less cameras, too. I think the card we have is something similar to that, I'll check.

I see...

I meant SDK or something like that so we can program to the card directly

along with those products there are usually SDKs.
however most of them use a common framework...
