Damn, how can I source an ASF/WMV 9 file without re-encoding the video? Is there a way of converting this to AVI? Virtualdub will not open it for saving, so will any Microsoft software export this to AVI? Any help would be much appreciated!

have you tried directshowsource("filename.asf")?

I just tried it, but there was an error:
Avisynth open failure:
DirectShowSource: I can't determine the framerate of the video, you must use the "fps" parameter.

then, look in your manual and use the fps= parameter...

OK thanks! I'd never used that source before, so I never knew the syntax, and wondered if there may have been a problem detecting the framerate or something. Anyway, it seems to be working, so I'll see how I get on... I hope the audio remains in sync etc.

VirtualDubMPEG2 might be able to save it as avi...

Nah, I don't think VD MPEG2 can handle WMV series 9, and from what I gather, newer versions of the software don't even support ASF/WMV at all.

VDMPEG2 can definitely handle asf/wmv containers, whether or not it can decode the content depends how new your ffdshow is. I just tried it and at first got errors about no codec for WVC1, but a bit of tweaking fixed that.
