View Full Version : Installing upgrades

Just curious. Received my e-mail advising of a new version 1.20.4 (Think I got that right).
In the e-mail is a link to an exe file that contains the complete upgrade, a zip file that contains only those files that were modified since the last version.
Which is better to use -- reinstall with the exe, or simply replace the files from the zip?
Appreciate any comments.:thanks:

If this is the first time you have installed v1.20.x then it is recommended you use the exe to install all the new stuff included with this upgrade.
If you already have a 1.20.x installed then the zip is fine.
I think the zip is generally for people have taken time to do special settings etc and don't want to change them. It's a very quick and easy upgrade.
Personally i always run the exe. That was I know i have everything installed and upgraded properly.
Just a matter of choice I guess.

The ZIP is only for those who have very limited bandwidth. I'd recommend you always use the EXE. If you want to keep your settings -- just say "No" when it asks whether to overwrite our existing INI file.

Could the installer be 'improved' to detect the presence of an existing installation and just upgrade the appropriate files vs walking through the entire setup ?? It does ask a LOT of questions.... :) Since I rarely change anything, I've been downloading the ZIP to save time "reinstalling".

If you have any specific files that you don't want updated or replaced then change them to "read only". When the installer runs it will detect the archive set to "read only" and ask you if you want to replace or ignore it. Click on ignore and that file remains untouched.
I used to do that for DGDECODE.DLL until i found the one I was using from NaN didn't work with the new mobile features.
cheers
