I know, I know, this is a really basic question. But how do you configure the Divx codec for autogk. I mean, I know how to configure it using other applications. I can get the dialog box for Divx to come up in, say, Virtualdub. But how do I configure which profile or what now that autogk uses?
/sorry to be such a newb.
//thanks in advance!

You don't. It has its own settings that it follows, and anything you might change within DivX wouldn't affect the output.

Thanks for the response.
Does that mean, then, that Divx support has become ... what's the word here ... sort of just 'tagged on' at this point? Is the intended use of this tool then pretty much considered closely coupled with the Xvid codec vs. the Divx one now?
Please don't take my tone wrong. I'm not being critical or anything. I've used autogk in the past and have always thought very highly of the tool. Recently, however, I needed to convert some mpeg2 captured from a camcorder into Divx. Dr. Divx doesn't seem to like the mpeg input stream, so I thought I would dust off autogk and give that a shot. Turns out, it likes the input stream just fine, I'm just wondering about it's ability to create the Divx output I need. Reading around on some other posts made me think that maybe autogk, when using Divx, uses the codec in some sort of default 'handheld' mode. My 624x480 video was auto-detected to 3xx pixels wide. This made me think that the handheld settings thing was true and I just wondered if there was a way to specify a different profile for the codec when using autogk.
Thanks again...

AutoGK decides on the profile/settings for both Xvid and Divx - you don't get to configure either of the codecs manually (one of the main selling points for AutoGK over GK). What you can however do, is influence the output based upon the Advanced Settings, and Hidden Options (Ctrl-F9).
Not sure if I'm exactly understanding your comment "624x480 video was auto-detected to 3xx pixels wide". Are you referring to AutoGk choosing a resolution after it's analysis stage.
e.g. "Chosen resolution is: 608x336 ( AR: 1.81 )"
if this is where your issue lies, then you could go into the Advanced Settings, and set a minimum width, or fixed width value. If AutoGK is choosing such a low value though and you override with a larger minimum/fixed width then your video quality will likely be degraded if you don't also increase your target output size.

Are you aware that xvid and divx produce cross compliant streams? That is, an xvid file is exactly the same format as a divx file.

Your assumptions are correct. I just have to sit down tonight and try this with the advanced settings and see how it comes out. Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know how it goes.

I need to bite the bullet tonight and try this one too. I'm consuming these with the Divx web player plugin. I assume that xvid will play (and stream) in the divx web player plug in. But can I make the assumption that it always will?
I'll try it and get back to you...

I've never played with the compatibility of the divx web player, but the standalone divx player will play xvid files just fine. The only possible point of incompatibility would be GMC.
