Hey guys I was looking at getting a DVD player capable of playing DivX files. I was wondering exactly how it works. Can I just burn straight DivX files onto a DVD and watch them, or do I have to encode it some special way.

For instance I have 12 DivX files(each 350MB) of my younger brother playing basketball and I was wondering if all I do is burn them straight onto the disc using a program such as Nero and then I can watch them or what.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Brian.

You can play many files DivX if each of file is NOT over 2GB (size) and 720x576 (widthxheight). Of course, it's compatible DivX certificated..

You just copy the divx files over like regular data files to your DVD. Nero works fine.

The divx players will come up with a directory with all of your files on the DVD, you select the one you want to watch an hit play (or select).

I know it is not possible right now to watch HD DivX at DVD Player that have DivX / DivX Ultra Certified, but any plan in the future to play HD DivX material in normal / upscale DVD player?

Uhm,
Sometimes over 2GB some DivX - DVD Home Theater still can play the movies. I have Pioneer Micro DVD Home Theater that can play DivX files at arround 3.4GB but if beyond 4GB it will be hang / error. I have been tested with Superman Returns at 720x480 in 4000 - 8000 bitrate ( I used Xilisoft to rip from its original DVD) and it did play well. But I wait for DVD / HD DVD that can play HD DivX and WMV HD.

I think that dvd players with chipsets by Sigma (e. g. the players by Kiss, like DP-600) can play HD Divx.

Yes,
I looked yesterday about Net HD Multimedia player that not only play DivX HD@4Mbps but also saying play WMV9, MPEG2@15Mbps, XviD and many other format. Not sure if it is play VC1 also. But poorly it only have VGA connector and Component. Not yet have HDMI or DVI. I am not remember its name, perhaps SnaZio or what, but it says come from China. Price about 460-470 USD. Quite expensive even said have Gigabyte Ethernet LAN connection, and processor + Memory, seems more computer than Multimedia Player.

Additional Info,
After I back again to the shop and ask the distributor, yes it have DVI. And the model name is Snazio Net DVD Cinema HD 1350 series. Don't get confuse with 1310 or 1300 model, as 1310 is just a network streamer HD Cinema, and 1300 model is just DVD player with upscaler not HD movies player. Seems interesting as they said support VC-1 format at 720p or 1080i (not 1080p). But they cannot upscale DVD Video that have CSS protection (poor me as have many DVD in CSS protect). There for I have to wait until they can rip off CSS problem.

They all have one thing in common though. They are all fitted with Sigma's EM8620L chip-set...

For more information about the Snazio SZ-1350 player. Here's a link to a thread over on the AVS forum: -

You right SeeMoreDigital,
I have been read all question and answer about Snazio in some av forum that you also involved. Start with good expectation but end up with some dissapoint, but well after all it is still the first time right? Need more time to wait for maturity. But I like the way they provide VC1 capabilities with WMVHD and the way they did with DivX HD, after all its not that expensive at all consider with HD output from both DVI and Component output. And yes some guys already have code to override CSS problem in forum. I have been read also your test with Zensonic Z500, quite interesting ;)

The 3.4GB, is it in single file? If yes I presume you use UDF not ISO

ISO or UDF not sure,
I burn it with Nero. But my Pioneer cannot detect UDF format that burn using NTI CD&DVD Maker7. So I stick with Nero. Yes it play well in just one big file. I have been tested with DivX HD material also (Kungfu Hustle) in 720p and can play it sounds without any quality problem, only pictures not shown as its only standard definition chipset.

OK I have read ISO 9660 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_9660)
There is called a multi-extent (fragmentation) feature of ISO 9660 to trick the 2 GB limitation.
