Ive seen hold of a few files encoded from retail DVD-sources to 672x272 res.

As far as I know the widest AR is 1:2.35 which would be 640x272 res.

Are they using a new AR or what is this?

It's probably not a good idea to discuss such material on this forum. It also puts into people's minds that some of the previous questions you've asked that start with "I have this video" that it may be illegally obtained, copyrighted material.
