(Should I be asking someone who's been a member since 2002?) - Have you performed a simple Googlesearch for (as a single line, including the word "and")and quotation marks):"h264 player" and "free"

you should know better than to suggest someone puts any search string with the word "free" into google :P
Try mplayer or VLC.

you should know better than to suggest someone puts any search string with the word "free" into googleWhy do you say that? I find it is extremely beneficial to do so, as it eliminates many possible links to payware...

ahh, I find the opposite to you obviously. adding in free when searching for small free utilities generally leads me to either spyware ridden repackages of them, or 30days trial ripoffs of them. Generally these days I just search sourceforge or go on the recommendation of a friend.

"h264 player" and "free"
and......quotation marks ae not needed with a single word.

here i found only ffds,
and this is the reason i specified that dont like to install ffds,
however i did, using any dsh or audio codec make my players crash, i suppose because this pc returned back to dx8, but i was able to play h264 by only enabling the vfw codec.
i believed as well that this post could be of general interest for newbies that only need to play some h264 vid.

:thanks: but i would prefer a decoder, better if lets me to use virtual dub too,
ffds make this possible by using the videoForWindows decoder.
i downloaded mplayer, just didnt still understand where the gui is...i will do a search.....

mplayer has no gui, which is why it's so nice. The only directshow decoder that is free is ffdshow. If you are having problems with it your better to find out what the problem is rather than dropping it and running.
