I'm in the process of trying to create a CV DVD for a friend of mine. One of the shorts he filmed is in SVCD format and I was wondering if there were more sophisticated methods of copying it to my HDD than simply copying the AVSEQ01.MPG file or, if it's a .DAT file, to copy that and convert it to .MPG with VCDGear.

Use ISOBuster, navigate to the MPEG2 folder of the SVCD, right-click on the AVSEQ01.MPG (or DAT), select option Extract but filter only M2F2 Mpeg frames and save with a new name. For an SVCD, data is contained in the M2F2 (Mode 2 Form 2) frames.

What are the benefits of that method over just using the MPG/DAT file?

[edit] The option you mention doesn't appear upon right-clicking the MPG. ISOBuster is now creating an image of the disc in order to extract the file.
