In ARCSOFT VIDEO IMPRESSION2 i have a choice of the following codecs to use what advice can you give please. My ultimate aim is to transfer video to DVD using NERO VE
CINEPAC CODEC by RADIUS
INTEL INDEO VIDEO R3.2
INDEO VIDEO 4.5
INDEO 5.10
MICROSOFT WINDOWS MEDIA 9

Uh, out of those, Windows Media 9.

Why on earth would anyone consider using Indeo or Cinepack now? Cinepack? Holy crap. :D

Does that "ARCSOFT VIDEO IMPRESSION2" use VFW codecs?
If so, you can install x264vfw codec, which should be far better than anything listed above.
Although this is not the recommended way of using x264...

A standard DVD playable in any DVD player? Or just a data DVD for keeping avis on? If it's the former, you should not use any of these codecs, all of them will reduce the quality and will make your later transfer a problem. If the former, just get Xvid, x264, or the current WMV9 version (http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/8/a/98a6cb2d-6659-485e-b1f9-2c0d9bf6c328/wmv9VCMsetup.exe), which is somewhat better.

obieobieobie, those are the default XP codecs, someone who's never used any of them wouldn't know the difference. :p

Should probably be in the newbies forum though.
