View Full Version : bad picture on my stand alone player when encoding with autoGK

Hi, everybody. i have some questions that i really would like to know :)
1. First, what is that all about:
"DEVELOPMENT HAS OFFICIALLY CEASED. " found here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=72679 ????!!!!

Today is 26 of November 2006. If so... then what is that: http://www.autogk.me.uk/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=66

Now, has the development stopped or is it running?

2. I am new to autoGK, but i know my way around some basic mpeg-4 convertions, Recently i encoded the movie "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" with autoGK to 1400MB around 1100 bitrate with original resolution 720pix. i used all-good-default-settings in the hidden options (Crlt+F9) while choosing during instalation to support MTK chipsets for stand alone players, couse i have a LG DVX-9900 which, as far as i know, uses MTK chipset. The ripping was actualy excellent. All-is-good ...WHEN i play it on my computer. if i play it on my player the picture gets really bad. Enormous blocking effect accours. In some motion scenes, the colors in some motion parts will stay "frozen" during motion and jump to the next scene where totaly different colors take place. After 1 second or less they will dissepear and the real colors of the present frame will show (only in some motion frames). I really can't explain, it is so wierd and really bad picture, Anybody any idea why this could be, I tried other options also and different sources of encoding, like for example, i tried to rip it on HD and then re-encode with virtual dub, but it stays bad. i tried taking out the MTK support, or deselected the in-build xvid codec while installing autoGK, but even if i use my nomral xvid profile that i installed separatly, i still get messed up picture when i encode with autoGK, there is another ripper called magicDVD ripper , it will rip the movie fine, and play it on my DVD player, so it must be something with autoGK, i dont use the magic ripper cause, it is to limited in options

3. I want to ask also, what is the esiest way to check a xvid movie's fourCC setting. i tried gsopt. Says all the other stuff, but no fourCC. 10x

Just what it says roise_r - note the keyword - "OFFICIALLY".

I've been absent for a while, but was around at the time. While not having reviewed all posts in the interim, I am assuming it's still as per the FAQ you referenced:

BUG REPORTS MAY BE SUBMITTED VIA THE MAIN THREAD, THOUGH THEY MAY NOT BE ACTED UPON.

REQUESTS FOR NEW FEATURES OR FUNCTIONS WILL BE IGNORED.

The following might help you reconcile the conflict you're experiencing: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=709861#post709861
Lets not dramatise for the time being. I'd rather suprise ppl with some unexpected releases than let everybody think I'm still actively developing it. I feel like its taken for granted that AutoGK will go on forever, so its time to stop that feeling

Still running an older version of GSpot (2.52b01), but it seems to show fourCC for me - in the Codec field. Attached image shows 3 video files encoded with:
- PicVideo M-JPEG 3
- XviD using fourCC of XVID
- XviD using fourCC of DX50

Just did a few quick google's and came across some comments that the mediatek based players are limited to playing vids with a max resolution of 720x576.

I don't normally encode to this maximum, however just ran a quick encode and can confirm that above 720x576 causes playback problems in my MT1389 player.

You mention using the "original resolution 720pix". What resolution are you outputting (width & height)?

Hi,

To get more info, can you post the logfile from your encode?

Hi,

I exactly have the same problem with resolution of 672 x 368 or less.

The quality is good on the PC but very poor on my standalone player (Philips SA3900 with MTK chipset).

thanks zacoz. but what about my bigger problem, do you have ant idea about that?

Which version of AGK are you using? And are you using the XVID build, which is included the AGK installation package?

I had this problem with my Philips DVP-5100 (with an MTK chip) a while ago. The resolution was to select the ESS option instead of MTK (!). That time I was using AGK 2.2x (and the XVID in the installation package). I was happy until...

...I bought Kiss DP-1500 (with a Sigma chip), which couldn't play the AVIs encoded with the ESS options selected. After some testing I switched over to DivX, which seemed to work fine with both players.

The latest version of AGK (2.37b) and the included XVID seem to have resolved the problem, at least for me. Both above mentioned players can handle the AVIs with MTK options selected. Not too much testing though.

Maybe someone who is more familiar with SAPs and XviD/DivX encoding have some ideas, which can cause the symptoms roise_r and Marcoweb have described.

hello again, and sorry for the delay, i hadn't had a chance to sit in front of a computer lately. last week i did some testings with different autogk versions, trying dvix & xvid. i burned them all to a dvd to see the result in my player, but as i said i didnt have a chance to check it out. i will do it tomorrow. for now I can tell you, that the version i was using until the last testings was the last stable version 2.27. with that version I tried almost all possible combination of settings. stand alone support , no stand alone support, build in xvid, stand alone xvid, codecpack xvid. the result is always rubbish in the player. for now i can give you only old log results. tomorrow i will post all the results

hello everyone. It's been a while and not too much activity has been going on. But i come with an interesting fact: xvid=problem, divx... everything is fine, no matter what version or profile support do i use... i mean:

1.with xvid codec stand alone installation, or the one that comes with autogk, or xvid from some codec pack, 2.27, 2.37 all three stand alone supports possibilities = NO GOOD, bad quality lots of blocks. you can see that clearly in very fast motion areas, for example car chases or fire burning, everything is with blocks, LARGE blocks

2. with DivX codec i have only tried with the codec that came with k-lite codec pack. I didn't try any other cause it worked fine the first time. It works with every option, with both stand alone supports. it works with no support also.

so, conclusion. xvid is the problem. Why is it the problem - i dont know, but i can say that other xvid encoded movies by me (home-made with video camera) have absolutely no problem with my player. So, second conclusion, the problem is a result of xvid codec working with autogk...? this is what i can say for now

i will go ahead and use divx for now, although this is not what i wanted in the beginning, but where xvid failed, divx succeded:)

hello, again... i was hoping someone could have and idea of what is going on, cause i really would like to use xvid as my encoding codec, anyone... ??? :(

have you tried ESS support? (if you have then there is nothing really can be done as it is as compliant as it could be)

i have tried, but how can it be, when i perfectly encode with xvid codec used by other applications??? when i use autogk and xvid together...everything goes to hell :(

I have used AutoGK and xvid on many movies and they play quite well in my standalone. I usally put 3 movies on one DVD. What are your file sizes?

roise_r
19th December 2006, 12:13
hello again. i didnt have the chance to write you sooner, but here is what i have from gspot. (in the attachments).
1.both to xvid: stands for - both fourCC options are changed to xvid, from a divx encoded movie. it is done with fourCC changer
2.both to divx: stand for the opposite - xvid encoded movie, changed both fourCC settings to divx
3.divx encoed movie as it is (no fourCC changes)
4.xvid encoed as it is...

Don't be fooled by the video codec info. given by gspot for the first two attachments... the first attach.(both to xvid) is a DiVX encoded movie and the second attach. is XViD...

@ len0x : i did this experiment cause it was my last hope, but no success. still the xvid encoded movie is bad on stand alone LG DVX-9900., and the divx encoded movie looks fine.

@ dialysis1 : My file sizes are typically normal - 700MB each CD. What stand alone player do you have...?

P.S. These are the infos hidden because of the scrolling windows for the original movies (no fourCC code changed).

rosie_r,

Try using 1/4 DVD file size with 720 fixed resolution with fixed MP3 VBR 192 settings and see what it looks like. Those are the same settings I used for Cliffhanger with AGK 2.37b and it loks fine. If yours doesn't then there is some incompatibility with your player ...not sure what it could be.
