VCD with a higher bitrate than 1150??

k, as you all know, VCD standards are 352x288 mpeg1 1150 kbps audio224kbps. i use DVDx and when i encode to VCD it goes at speed 6.6. but for SVCD at about 2.8. i don't want VCD becuase the quality is lower, so i tried to encode VCD but changed the bitrate to 1800kbps.

then i loaded the mpeg file in nero and there were no problems. and the cd worked fine in my pc dvd player using winDVD.

one thing though. if VCD standards are 1150kbps, why is it possible to do it at 1800kbps. and will this work in a standalone DVD player??

It's called an XVCD, some standalone DVD players can play them, some not. Taken from www.vcdhelp.com: XVCD stands for eXtendedVCD and is an extension of VCD 2.0. It tries to use the most power from the chip of the standalone dvd player. Some people speak from a mix between VCD 2.0 and SVCD. XVCD uses like VCD MPEG1 but it is possible to set up the bitrate to 3.5 MBit/s and use a higher resolution. It is impossible to use multi audiostrems for multilanguage or use subtitles. A X(S)VCD can be played on many standalone VCD Players, not so many standalone DVD Players but check here for a compatibility list, and of course on all computers with a CD-ROMs/DVD-ROMs with a software VCD/MPG Player.

A X(S)VCD can be played on many standalone VCD PlayersThis would be a rather questionable statement. VCD players are based on singlespeed drives and physically can't accept higher bitrates than the standard. Actually some will read the mpeg file at singlespeed, resulting in slo-mo playback of your movie :). X(S)VCD is a DVD player format.

so can any DVD player that plays SVCD's play XVCD's???

Also can anyone suggest a way in which i can make DVDx encode SVCD faster than 2.8??

"Any DVD player" is a very big word ... I would say most, but they differ a lot in what they will play back. vcdhelp.com lists which players will accept XVCD, but XVCD is a very undefined thing (different resolutions, bitrates, muxing technique etc).
Want to go faster? Get a faster CPU :). Or use a different encoder like CCE (you can frameserve from DVDx). Instructions are on doom9.net and on the dvdx homepage.
