View Full Version : Capturing BBC HD Trials - How?

Hello,
I have a Hauppauge WinTV USB2 DVB-T card. I receive all transmissions from the Crystal Palace transmitter and am able to see the 4 HD trial chans (BBC HD, ITV HD, Channel4 HD and Five HD) however I am not able to view them or capture. I have full signal and know that the software that is supplied with my card is unable to decode them properly (it sees them as radio stations).
I know people are able to see and record from the CP transmitter, I was just wandering how?
If anyone can shed some light on this matter it would be appreciated :)
thanks

Hi, if the card has BDA drivers you can capture the transport stream with graphedit as an easy way.
Which card is it, AFAIK some usb devices have built in demultiplexors, if it cannot demux itself and cannot deliver transport stream to the PC then it won't be able to capture the HD streams.

If you can capture raw .TS then just record while on the channel. You won't be able to see or probably hear anything until you playback the captured TS file.

Some programs are able to see the HD channels, some are not - does anyone have all the infomation to enter where the channels are - such as freq. etc etc - any information is appreciated :)

apk, did you try the graphedit method I described, it's not as difficult as it sounds. I also gave you the frequencies in that message.
If you havn't got it sorted by tomorrow when I have VS installed I'll whip you up a quick BDA TS capture app, I used to use it myself, but I hardcoded it with my card and frequencies, just need a couple of minutes to alter it.

Lol, I hope Jimmy was good! :D
I raked out some source code and can't really remember how it works, but I need to get started with this again anyway, so I'll try and make a simple app.
I also installed my old kworld TV card so I could try DVBDream. I already had set up my satellite card, but I think to get it to work you need to do this.
1)tell it anything for Satellite on first open.
2)Options>Device>BDA terrestrial>start.
3)Options>frequency lists>Add List
Now it bring up a drop box which only has Europe and UK terrestrial frequency lists.
I made you a transponder list for Crystal palace[SATTYPE]
1=4002
2=DVB-T Crystal Palace
[DVB]
0=8
1=482000,H,6900000
2=506000,H,6900000
3=522000,H,6900000
4=530000,H,6900000
5=538000,H,6900000
6=554000,H,6900000
7=562000,H,6900000
8=578000,H,6900000
Save it as 4002.ini and put it in the transponder folder (C:\dvbdream\Transponders) before opening DVBdream to do the above procedure, this add a Crystal Palace option to the frequency lists and save scanning the entire range.
Then you will just have to go to scan and choose the list which was added before.

Hello :)
With alot of help from chilledoutuk using progdvb i was able to record a few minutes of BBC HDTV @ Video [H.264] 1440x1080/25fps/24mbps avg Audio [AC3 5.1] 384kbps. Below are screenshots, click to enlarge :)
Thank you to mitsubishi and oddball for your help, i did try those methods but without luck (apart from the capping .ts). However i am not looking for a way to encode this .TS to XviD. Traditional methods dont work due to H.264.
