The audio track goes out of synch 1/2 through the movie. I converted with AGK 2.37b and with 2.27 both in VBR192 and CBR160 and all have the same issue. So how do I fix an audio track that is only partly our of synch? What could be the cause?
Any help or ideas are appreciated.
Thanks,
Kis

Hi!The audio track goes out of synch 1/2 through the movie.Does the original source material play properly, or does it go out of synch?
Was the source material an original DVD? Or, possibly, was it something else, such as two videos that you joined together?
If it was two videos that you joined together, what software and procedures did you use to do this?

The original source is DVD, which plays properly. I had a similar situation that was corrected by using a CBR audio track ...I don't know why it worked, but it did. My best guess is that it was poorly authored. The movie I'm dealing with now, is one from 1983, made for TV, and most likley poorly authored as well (no subtitle tracks or multiple audio tracks.)

First, split the .AVI as follows, using VirtualDub (or any of its variants) or NanDub:
1)Load your original (DivX-compressed or otherwise) .AVI into VirtualDub or NanDub
2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
3) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
4) Move slider to the last keyframe that is still in synch
5) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
6) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End'
7) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - Save as a new filename (e.g. "Movie1of2.avi").
8) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
9) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Move to End"
10) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End"
11) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - Save as a new filename (e.g. "Movie2of2.avi").
Shut down VirtualDub and restart it (Cautionary)
Load the file into VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod, or NanDub.
Set BOTH "Video"(VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod and NanDub) and "Audio"
(VirtualDub and NanDub - VirtualDubMOD>"Streams>"Stream list") to "Direct Stream Copy".
Load the out of synch video ("Movie2of2.avi")
A) If the difference between audio and video is constant throughout the video:
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Interleaving" (For VirtualDubMOD, rightclick on the listed audiostream and then select "Interleaving")
Under "Audio skew correction", set an appropriate number of
milliseconds (positive or negative) in the box labelled "Delay audio track by"
Save with a new filename ("Movie2Aof2.avi")
B) If the difference increases as the movie plays:
From under the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Framerate" - and select "Change so video and audio durations match"
Save with a new filename ("Movie2Aof2.avi")
Shut down VirtualDub and restart it (Cautionary)
1) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
2) Loading the first file ("Movie1of2.avi") and then, from the "File" dropdown menu selecting "Append .AVI segment" and loading the second file ("Movie2Aof2.avi").
3) Save with a new filename (e.g. NewCombinedMovie.avi")

That sounds great. I didn't think of that. I'll try in the morning and let you know.
Thanks again.

setarip_old,
you put me on the right track. I split the AVI as you instructed and fixed the part2 that was out-of-synch, but the segment still drifted back out of synch so I had to also do step "B". Then I wasn't able to append the segments because they had different frame rates. After trying to get the segments set at the same rates, I tried the simple approach...I applied step "B" to the entire movie and it fixed the synch issue. I'm not sure why it didn't work th other way, but the issue has been corrected.
So thanks for the help. VDub and VDubMod are great if not essential tools.
