hi there.

i have recently purchased an xbox 360 and for some days now i am testing its hd media playback capabilities.
now from what i understand xbx360 plays only media files with the wmv format (*.wmv).

the problem is that i have a lot of hd movie trailers which i would like to view them in my xbx,but unfortunately they are all in quicktime format (*.mov)

my question is if its possible to change the container of the hd video file from quicktime to wmv without any kind of recompress,so that the original quicktime files can be recognised and played from the xbox360.if yes, which is the recommended method for this task?

i have searched the forum and found some old topics talking about conversion from .mov into .wmv but i couldnt figure out if their methods were without recompression and that the final wmv files would be suitable for playback in xbx360.

so i would be grateful for any kind of help about this problem.

I don't know much about XBOX360, but if it only accepts WMV files then I doubt it can play MOV files without recompression! The ".wmv" files use WMV format for video, WMA format for audio and they are stored in the ASF container. Now you might be able to mux your MOV files from MOV/MP4 container to ASF container and then rename them to ".wmv", but the video format is still H.264 (or whatever was stored in your MOV files). If XBOX360 can only decode WMV and WMA, this won't help you...
