View Full Version : Replacing cells with Vob Blanker

I try to merge 2 d5s of the same title with Vob Blanker. What I do is to extract the cells of the second disc to individual vobs and replace it with the cells in disc 1. This process seems quite tidious as there are sometimes as many as 20 cells. Is there a quicker way to doing it?

The other point is the Vob IDs have changed after replacement. How can I can change it back to its original state?

Just add one blank cell to the end of disk 1 (you can do this in PgcEdit).

Replace that cell in VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm) with the IFO of disk 2 (it will add the cells where necessary).

Don't worry about VOB-IDs - they are just identification. But you can change them with VIDChanger.

Blutach, thanks for the reply, so one thing learned.
If I replace a cell with an IFO of the program then the cells will be replaced by the number of cells in it, am I right?

Regarding to the present situation, since the cells are all there, so I don't need to create a blank cell, but do I need to remove other unwanted cells?
For example, if there are 12 cells to replace, do I need to remove all but 1 cell so that it can be replaced by the IFO?
Or if I replace the 1st cells by the IFO, will it replace in the rest of the cells respectively?

Thanks in advance!

Replace that cell in VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm) with the IFO of disk 2 (it will add the cells where necessary).

Not really... VobBlanker will merge all the cells in only one large cell
If you want to keep the cells/programs/chapters, I think it is better to create a new PGC with the same number of cells as your Title #2 (you can do it using pgcedit of course) and then replace the PGC #2 with VobBlanker.
Finally, you have to do some modification in navigation commands to acvcess to the second title.

Creating the PGC in the same VTS:
Do not create the 2nd PGC with "Clone PGC" in pgcedit, use "New dummy PGC", and add the required cells with "Create new cell". ( A new blank cell and do not tick TMAPTI creation).

Using Clone PGC, you'll have to run VobBlanker twice: 1st blanking all the cells of the 2nd PGC (blank the cells, not the PGC), so VobBlanker willl create all the required new blank cells, and , a 2nd time to replace the PGC

Creating the PGC in a new VTS:
I think this cannot be done using pgcEdit.., at least, from a menu.

I do not understand...
You have one title, say Title #1 with 20 cells, and you want to keep it. Don't you?
Also, you have in other IFO, a second title, say with 19 cells, and you want to merge it after the 1st one. Don't you?

So, you don't have the required number of cells in the IFO #1, say 20+19.

But if you want to replace the title, it is other thing. VobBlanker is able to replace the whole PGC in one click, just select replace PGC (not replace cells) and it will adjust the number of cells.
In the example, if title #1 (20 cells) is replaced by title #2 (19 cells) , VobBlanker will replace the first 19 cells , cell by cell, and will blank the last one (#20)
EDIT:
On the other side, if the replacing title has 20 cells and the replaced only 19, VobBlanker will replace the first 18 cells, cell by cell, and in the 19th, VobBlanker will merge the 19 and 20 of the replacing title.

Thanks jsoto for you kind attention.
I've just tried out Blutach's suggestion but it didn't work, VobBlanker will only accept vob replacement on cell level.

I know I can replace the whole pgc, in fact that's what I've always been doing after I add subtitles to a dvd.

Now, what I want is to merge 2 d5s back to a d9. So, if the disc has 20 cells, 10 of them are in the 1st disc, 10 of them are in the 2nd, both discs have 20 cells in them with the last 10 of the 1st disc being empty and also the first 10 of the 2nd disc. At present, I load the 2nd disc in VB, and extract the cells to vobs before replacing them in the first disc. So I am asking if there is any simplier way of doing this? Something like replacing a group of cells in a pgc?

Regarding creating a new pgc, it is relatively new to me, and I think I need sometime to digest, thanks!

Ah! I understand now... To merge back 2xDVD-5 into a DVD-9.
So you don't need to create a new PGC.

Well, you have the right number of cells..., so .
you can try other method (also time consuming)
Extract all the non-blanked cells of both DVD5 (do a multiple selection in VobBlanker and click extract. Better do 4 groups of cells and name the files VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc, because all cells will be extracted in one files VobBlanker will not split the VOB files by size..)
Put all the files in the same folder, renumbering the ones from the 2nd DVD to be consecutive

Create IFOs with IFOEDIT. Do not forget to "get sectors".

Replace your PGC with the newly created DVD in 1st DVD

Hi!

Are these two DVD5s both "movie only"? If so, a simple way to accomplish your purpose (Two re-combined into one title) is to use the "Join" function of either DVD2One or DVD95Copy...

@setarip_old normally they are dvds with menus, thanks!

Thanks once again for the replies, I know how to join movies with IFOEdit but I think I'll do that only when it is necessary. I think replacing is the strongest with VobBlanker so I'll keep to that. I am only wondering if there is any other better method.

Regarding splitting a DVD-9 to 2 DVD-5s, I have 2 questions:

I've seen in some dvds with commands on the blanks chapters such as
"LinkCN cell 13" that will jump to the first chapter available.

1. So, with PgcEdit, how can I add this command to the cell? It seems to me that PgcEdit shows a cell command but doesn't tell which cell it belongs.

As in the above example, cell 2-12 are reused cells of cell 1,

2. So how can I create these cells?

Thanks!

ve been away... anyways, Since the IFO dictates what aspect ratio, subtitles, and audios to use...I can only wonder what the end results would be if I would to combine a widescreen and fullscreen movie? What if I had different audios and subs too?

My apologies for the bum steer - it's been a while since I did that. I guess this is a bit like joining a flipper - which you can do with VobEdit - guide on the IfoEdit (http://web.archive.org/web/20060515074953/www.ifoedit.com/guides.html) site.

And welcome back 2COOL!!!

Hi!I can only wonder what the end results would be if I would to combine a widescreen and fullscreen movie? What if I had different audios and subs too?"BigCondor 's" question is regarding RE-joining two DVD-5s back into their original one DVD-9:what I want is to merge 2 d5s back to a d9Therefore, it's a safe assumption that video formats, audio formats, and subtitle formats would be the same.

On the other hand, in the scenario you described, DVD2One will gladly create a DVD-9 with the two files as two separate TITLES...

Thanks for pointing out the guide, of course I've seen this before, most of your guides have been beneficial to me. I've overlooked the cell cmd number. I've always thought that the number is a count of the commands in the cell and after this ocassion I sure will know what it means. There have been too many information going around and it is very easy to forget unless you practice it many times.

@BigCondor
Talking about puting back 2xDVD-5 in a DVD-9, did you try a multiple selection in VobBlanker?
Say:
- Extract all the cells (one cell per file) using VobBlanker in disk #2 . Easy with Extract-All_multiple button
- Open disk #1 in VobBlanker and select (multiple selection) the blanked cells (the ones belonging to disk #2)
- Click replace: VobBlanker will ask you to select the VOB file, once per cell to be replaced. Just double-click on the VOB files, one by one...

@2COOL
Glad to see you again!

Yes, I've done this many times with success. But I did individually with each cell. I had overlooked the command of extract all the cells and the last time I use that command and sure it saved a lot of time.

I've never tried replacing multiple cells at 1 click, I'll try it later, thanks for the information. So it will be further time saving.

Just a thought came out of my mind, instead of replacing a pgc, could you add a function of replacing some cells of the pgc?

For example, if there are 24 cells in the pgc, and I want to replace the last 12 cells with another pgc. I have a pgc with 12 cells. So, during the replacement of the pgc, provide an option of replacing part of the pgc by asking the starting cell to be replaced (and in this case 12, default is 1). This has the advantage of skipping the extraction of cells to vobs. It saves many efforts like what we do when replacing a pgc. Please consider if it is possible to add this to your new version, thanks!

Please try. You have to extract the cells anyway, but the replacement is quite easy.

if there are 24 cells in the pgc, and I want to replace the last 12 cells with another pgc. I have a pgc with 12 cells. This is not the case when merging back 2 DVD-5 into a DVD-9. In this situation you have two PGCs with 24 cells, In first disk the PGC has blanked the last cells, and in disk #2, the first ones are blanked.

So, I know it takes some more time to extract the cells, but it is more flexible...

Mmm... I see your point, that's something I've overlooked.

I'll try that one click replacement of cells next time, thanks!
