I copied a DVD to my computer with DVD Decrypter in File mode but I can't figure out what I need to use to burn a backup disc at this point. What should I use? Did I just create a copy that I can't burn a useable backup of?

I tried searching the site, browsing guides, and searching FAQs and topics on the forums but I'm afraid I don't have any key search terms to find the solution if it's been posted here. Thanks.

Hi-

Did I just create a copy that I can't burn a useable backup of?

Maybe, maybe not. If it's a DVD5, you might have been better off creating an ISO from DVD Decrypter, ready to burn using DVD Decrypter, or ImgBurn. Or maybe you'd like to remove warnings and other garbage before creating your own ISO using ImgTool Classic, before then burning using DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn.

If your original DVD was from a DVD9, then either you'll have to burn it to a DVD9, or compress the size so that it can be burned to a DVD5.

There are lots of ways to do these things. Perhaps have a look at a few of Doom9's Guides:

Further to what "manono" has stated, if it's a DVD5, you can now use the current version of IMGBurn (In "Build" mode) to burn the DVD "package" (.IFOs, .BUPs, .VOBs) that you've created - without the need to create an .ISO image file.

Thanks setarip_old. I'm of the if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it school, and am still using the ImgTool Classic/DVD Decrypter combo. Maybe it's time I updated to ImgBurn.

Thanks guys! I found the build mode in ImgBurn and burned the disc. (The original was DVD9 and so was the copy, I didn't want to do any editing, just a straight backup to view.)

I've burned the disc and played it in my PS2, and it works mostly well, but it stutters at a few points. Not a repeated stutter but the video just freezes for a fraction of a second (audio as well) and then it continues. This happens once and then a few minutes later it might happen again.

But it only happens for a portion of the video, somewhere near the middle, like perhaps it's occurring around where the layer split occurs. Does anyone have any insight into this error, how to fix it in future backups, etc? Thanks.

You've probably left the burn speed set to "MAX." Reduce the burn speed to half the rating of either the burner or media, whichever is slower.

Dual layer burning has its own set of rules. If you didn't create the ISO from DVD Decrypter to begin with, then I think you'd best follow this guide to, among other things, make sure the layer break is set correctly:

http://www.digital-digest.com/~blutach/dl_burn_guide2/dl_burning_with_pgcedit_v2.htm

And make sure you're using Verbatim +R discs.

(Sorry to embellish again, but) The strongest feature of IMGBurn is its ability to generate the best layerbreak possible for your D/L burns...

Embellish all you want. :)

If my info is wrong or out-of-date, I surely want to be corrected. Maybe I should spring for a DVD9 one of these days to test myself. Thanks.

So, does it find the best layer break position automatically? If so, then his stuttering/freezing can't be because of a layer break problem? Maybe because of bad media?
