I have read and re-read threads on converting from a dvd to an avi, but it appears to be of no use to me. I have purchased SuperTroopers and wanted to rip it and convert to an avi to store on a portable hd to take with me. When I use dvddecrypt to rip it off,I select Region 1, which I am and rip it. But when I try to load the files into any conversion program the preview shows a message that the dvd isn't coded for my region, then shows the FBI warning in Spanish of all things. What am I doing wrong? And is there an easy all in one program that will rip it correctly and encode to avi or mp4 or something of the sort?

Hi!

Try ripping your DVD(s) using the easy to use "RipIt4me" package (Incorporates RipIt4Me, DVD Decrypter, FixVTS, and DVD Shrink). You can download this excellent freeware from:

www.ripit4me.org

While you're at that site, read the excellent "how to" tutorial...

Hello and welcome to the forum,

What am I doing wrong?

You should be using DVD Decrypter in IFO Mode (up at the top, Mode->IFO), instead of the default File Mode. That way you should get just the movie, without the other garbage.

I have tried it in IFO mode. I even tried it on a seperate machine. I ripped it, then used Shrink to make it an ISO, thinking I should just be able to mount the ISO using DaemonTools and watch it that way. I can mount it, but I get no drive label, and when I pick the first VOB on the ISO I still see "Disc is not formatted for this region". Argh ...... I'll look at ripit4me ....

in DVDDec you can look under tools->drive->regional code for information on what region your drive is set up as. You can either change it or disable it from there, that might be what you're looking for. Ensure the drive is set either to the region of the disc, or the checking is disabled.

What is the prog of choice for conversion to AVI or MP4 around here? Preferably something that doesn't require a 5 step process with little handholding to make sure it syncs everything.

Ripit4me seems to do the trick. I used that to rip and fix the vob's, then used shrink to create an iso that worked just perfectly. I can deal with iso's instead of avi's .. I get better quality that way anyway. Thanks.
