xvid codec 'shaky' on certain files

hi there,

ive been having a problem with my xvid codec lately.. it seems to be a problem that has only recently appeared, i thought it was because i had an old version of the xvid codec, but now im updated... well heres my problem.

if i install and use the xvid 1.1 codec certain titles playback voilently shakily, if i use the ffdshow filter or whatever it is and use that to decode xvid, the shakiness is gone for those specific files that shake in the first place, but all other xvid files have a shake albiet 'slight'.

so i either have the choice of smooth playback on 99% of my xvid avi files and voilent shaking on the other 1% or i can have slight jittering on all my files, its like watching a slow 12ms lcd (or slower).

im just so sick of installing 1 codec to watch certain files then install another to watch the rest, its quite tedious.

any help would be appreciated.

I've seen some shaky files twice since I've ever used XviD, and it was due to the encoding (those specific files I'm talking about were fansubbed-anime and 2 specific episodes distributed by that team were very shaky, the only way to play them decently was in VLC). Shaky in my case was "temporally jumping backwards and forwards very fast".

The fact that ffdshow shows slight "shakiness" on all files is another matter, but those titles you describe are simply badly encoded, imho.

If you had provided samples and/or screenshots, it would have been easier for us to grasp what you described as "shakiness". There are loads of artifacts which could be described as "shakiness".

stupid forums.... sorta like asking a rock huh....usually, on Doom9, problems get solved when people have already run into them, or when valuable info is posted about the problem. Saying "this file is shaky" doesn't mean much, and guessing games aren't a favorite hobby for many folks here.

Btw, why wouldn't you share the solution you found ? Sharing information works both ways 'ya know ;)
